997 S -stick- vs 996 T -tiptronic- which is more fun?

What is more fun: tiptronic 996 T or manual 997 S? (I posted this in 996 T forum also)...
Hey guys .....

I have 996 '99 C2. manual trans. Pretty fun to drive to work...
I take it 3 times per week. And enjoy it on the highway.
Lately thinking of changing it to even more fun.

So every one says T is the next step.
However, I am unable to find a manual T in local market.
Just came across 2005 T with 50000 miles on it. Tiptronic.
Colour is great and seems to be in good condition.

Also found 2007 997 S(converted to 2012 uplift), manual trans. Yellow color.
Same price as the T.

What is your take on these choices?
Is it even worth changing the c2 to either?

I am managing C2 maintenance cost within my budget. Will I need to pay significantly more if I change to either (997 S or the 996T)??

Your input will be appreciated................

Thanks.

PDK or manual in my opinion, TIP would not be a choice for me, not in a 911.

No-brainer, 997 manual.

Now if you asked the other way around, 997 tip vs 996 manual, I'd have to think a bit. But I'd probably still say manual.

I'd highly recommend you drive both, they are remarkably different driving experiences.

Between the two I'd personally prefer the Manual trans 997. But drive both!

well you are already a Porsche owner/driver so if you drive the ones in question you should be able to pick a clear choice.
For me, 6 spd or PDK.

Thank you all for the replly....

Only made me stick to stick!

That was what I wanted/thought. You guys confirmed...
Looking for a manual over a PDK.
But surprisingly, in local market more than 90% sold are Tippys!!

So I guess the hunt will go on.

Part of the P ownership experience is: "looking and waiting for the right car to come along". This is what I can tell from my as well others experience.

Meanwhile, I would enjoy my ride to and from work on the C2, that has just passed the 151000 km mark over the last week.....

Tiptronic S is better than some people give it credit. It suits the TT very well as it overcomes some of those harsh shifts. And since there's no clutch to burn, the transmission lasts longer! Agreed though that manual stick is great fun, so use the Tip in manual.

Yes sir...

You can go a little faster on a track with a PDK and feel like a Gran Prix driver going clickety click, but for sporty road driving the manual is THE way to be really involved in driving a Porsche...good luck!

PS -- Only exception may be the ridiculous 7 speed manual on the 991's with the stupid lock out...

I was in a similar situation.

I was torn between 3 cars:
1.) 2003 996 TT Stick
2.) 2006 997 S TIP
2.) 2007 997 S Stick

The 996 TT was by far the fastest, however, the styling wasn't for me.

This left me with the 997's as the styling was perfect for me.

To help in my decision I started by talking to a very good Porsche Mechanic and was surprised when he told me the TIP was the way to go for the simple reason that they are reliable. In fact he liked the TIP better than PDK - Go Figure.

I drove both and here is my very short take.

The launch on the Stick was awesome if you like to put some extra power to the wheels . Other than that I really enjoyed the TIP. I had to sell myself on the idea as I had always had a stick. After much internal debate (my wife thought I was going crazy) I decided on the TIP.

Two years later and I feel I made the right decision... I absolutely love the TIP and don't see myself going back.

Good luck with your decision.... just remember you will be driving it and no one else.

Manual vs Triptronic?

Manual is the only option in a Pcar, for me at least. Would not be able to enjoy that car with a torque converter in the way.
