Alternator Cable Problem?
#16
I had a harness replaced last week.
My 06 C2S would start fine when cold. After a short drive, lets say, if i were to stop and get gas, it would terrify me that it would not start. Basically, when warmed up or hot, the car would crank slow or just crank and then fail to start until cool.
changing the harness has made an immense difference. Let's see if the problem persists after a few months or not?

How much does changing the harness cost ?

Heck, Suncoast actually has the troubleshooting procedure right in the description of the cable. That is awesome.
Going to see if my shop can do this tomorrow.

In addition to the Alternator cable being replaced, I also attempted to change the starter over the Holidays. The job is much easier than the cable replacement and the starter can be obtained from O'Reilly for $140.00. The starter is made by Bosch and is almost identical to the original Porsche part.
The most difficult part of this job is to re-assemble the resonator and admission hose between the two banks of the engine. There is an excellent DIY at http://rennlist.com/forums/997-forum...l#post11514446. I followed pretty much the explanations with one difference: I removed the serpentine belt and moved slightly the alternator to pass the E-14 socket and extensions required to undo the starter.
After putting everything back together, the car cranks with a lot more gusto at cold. When hot, the starter no longer sounds like an asthmatic patient which is always embarrassing for the Porsche driver....
A cheap and very efficient modifications for 2006 owners.
