997.1 S Tire Replacement

Hi Guys,

It's time to replace the original Pirelli's and have a couple of questions:

1) Will upgrading to 305/30/19 in the rear provide an noticeable increase in understeer (car is stock)?

2) Which tires should I consider?

Thanks!

Michelin pilot super sports seems to be mentioned a lot.

I'm replacing my Bridgestones with the Michelin Pilot Super Sports in the next 3-6 weeks. I already have 305s and rarely have noticeable understeer on the track.

My Porsche shop did dial in some camber and toe on four wheel alignment.

Michellin PSS
305 & 245 on 997.1 GT3 wheels.
Drove from HOU to DAL 3 hrs in heavy rain, tires handled perfect. Speed sometime near 105 mph mark.

My 08 w/ oem Sport wheels (305's) are/were awful understeering, and I was at stock camber settings.

After installing H&R sways, finally my car will rotate and not plow anymore.
iirc, my front was soft, and rear stiff setting.

I am also running Michelin PSS... awesome tire.

997.1 S Tires

I changed mine from conti's to the PSS. NB Stock suspension except H&R springs. I put 305's on the rear.

Much less harsh ride, better handling and no problem with understeer. I havent tracked but do drive fairly aggressively.

MPSS are excellent tires. Change your alignment if you don't want understeer.

No problems with the 305s. Changed from Bridgestones to MPSSand seem to get more miles from the MPSS than the Potenzas, maybe a little harder? Only complaint is they, MPSS, are bumpy when cold.

If it's a street car then Pilot Super Sports are fantastic. Going with 305's in the rear will likely increase understeer because you're increasing the grip at the rear end. You can either go wider up front or have the understeer tuned out.

I have PSS and they are great. I was thinking of trying the Conti's next time around (because I think they make an all-season that fits, am I wrong???), but based on your experience, would I just be better served staying with the Michelin's?

wife's "08" CS4 is running conti DWS and we love them. Smooth, quite and long lasting. That said, we don't track the car. It is her daily driver. I have pushed it pretty hard and it handles great but nothing to compare with what I would encounter on a track.

Is anyone running the Hankook Ventus V12 EVO2 tires?

Is there a preferred alignment setting that 997 owners are using and still keeping it friendly for daily use?
