Exhaust loudness - Cargraphic vs. Gundo/Xpipe vs. Muffler Delete?

Hey Everyone,

997.1 talk here...

Right now I've got a Cargraphic Super Sound Export on my car and I wish it was a bit louder. I'm wondering if I switch to a Gundo and Catted X-pipe... will that be louder? My thought process is that I could sell the Cargraphic and buy a used xpipe, then hack my exhaust if that is louder.

Alternatively, how loud are the muffler bypass/delete pipes? Let's say compared to a .1 GT3 w/ center muffler bypass? My buddy has a .1 GT3 w/ the center muffler delete and I love that sound.

I'm trying to figure out where I should go at this point. I definitely want louder, but not annoying loud.

sounds to me that youre looking for maximum sound, and not overly concearned with listening to radio, or long road trips and any freeway drone?

I have cargraphic cats with x-pipe with fister gundo cans and stock headers, and for me, it can get taxing on long trips regarding sound levels. I DD my car, hence my appreciation for trying to keep it tame with an edge at the same time.

how do you use your car? Cargraphic quality is crazy good....fit and finish absolutely perfect!!

I'm on the exact same boat - 997.1 with Cargraphic Super Sound; wish it was a little louder; wondered if Gundo hack would be louder.... I even had my stock muffler Gundo-hacked already.

But based on the info I read on the forums, all seem to suggest that they both sound very similar, and it was not worth the effort to swap (my tips are soldered on to the muffler in order to eliminate the rattling noise from the tip touching the bumper cover). The cargraphic also has the advantage of being lighter. So I decided to keep the Cargraphic. I also noticed when I drive with the windows open, the exhact actually sounded lauder than I thought.

What are the options for muffler bypass / delete?

I also have Cargraphics SS muffler and have been happy with it.

If its not loud enough, perhaps u r driving in <4k rpm most of the time ?
IMO this muffler really comes out 4-7k rpm.

personally, muffler delete would be too loud for me

Do you have high flow cats as well? I think that also can make it louder, I have the Cargraphic loud version mufflers and their high flow cats and i think it's on the loud side. It drones a bit under 3k rpm but after that its fairly aggressive sounding! I wouldn't want it any louder myself.

You need mufflers! I tried the Fabspeed muffler bypass pipes, for about a week, crazy loud with terrible drone. You actually get sick without earplugs. Might be ok at the track but not for the street.

Glad to see I'm not the only one. Have you thought about doing an xpipe?
No so sure yet on the bypass... I guess Fabspeed?

Yes I'm definitely driving in the 2-4k range. I prefer to save gas as well

Yes, I did consider doing an X-pipe, just haven't made up my mind yet. And I recently switched to solid engine mount and it really enhanced the sound inside the car without making it louder outside (don't want to annoy my neighbours). So I'm good for now and will see if I want to look into the x-pipe again.

Our 997 Sport Cat X-Pipe sounds phenomenal and really provides good power gains as well. If you coupled our x-pipe with a set of gundo hacked side mufflers, I really think this would be just the exact sound you are looking for. More aggressive through out the entire power band, but not obnoxious under normal driving conditions.

I'll second that. I have Fabspeed X-pipes with 200 cell cats and my cans are Gundo-hacked. It's a beautiful sound on a daily driver, and only takes a nudge to make it start roaring. I have an IPD plenum and a CAI for a little intake sound as well. It's loud but not overpowering, unless you want it to be. Any louder would interfere with domestic tranquility. It has tons of presence.

I've had all the setups you mention. My favorite was X51 headers, AWE 200 cell cats with the Fister mufflers. To me this was the one that sounded the most Porsche and had a raw sound. Definitely louder than the CG SS with stock cats. Muffler delete was annoying. I have a 997 Turbo now and still dream about the AWE+Fister sound and plan on adding an NA to my garage again some day.

I had this setup on my c4s and it was awesome.

PSE, Fabspeed 200 cell cat x-pipe, fabspeed long tube headers. No drone with the sport button off, screams with the sport button on. This member has the same setup (gundo hack is same as sport mode on).

Let me just take a minute and mirror what others have said and sang praises of - the Fabspeed sport catted x pipe is a game changer for exhaust notes. Gives it that exotic sound under open throttle positions, no one has left the shop let down after getting these put on...they flat out transform these cars with a simple mod!
