Am I nuts? Trade in 2011 997.2 C4 for a 2005 Lambo Gallardo or 2014 Bentley CoNTI GT?
Purchased a 997.2 C4 brand new in 2010. Have 2 infants, so our family car is the MDX, wife has a 328i 6mt and the 997 is my somewhat daily driver (only 19kmi). Also wanted and exotic. Have a chance to trade in for a 2005 Lambo Galardo 6MT. Need to put an extra $40k on top of trade in (pcar paid off). Planning to keep the Gallardo for maybe a year then trade in for a more sensible family car like a flying spur.
Is this a stupid decision? Will I regret it? Will I lose a lot of money when trying to trade in the Gallardo for a Bentley?
Other option is trade in and add an extra $100k for a preowned 2014 Bentley Continental GT V8 w 1500mi. However CarFax shows it's a fleet vehicle. Do you think this was abused?
Thanks in advance for any advice or insight.

I'd keep the 911...Lamborghini is five years older and it will cost you a fortune in maintenance.
Besides, when your kids are three or four they can sit in the back of the 911....it was great to have a sports car when my kids were young. As for the Bentley, well that's a nice big honking car, but I would prefer to drive a 911...I'd trade your wife's car for a Macan!
(!my 2 cents)

Not stupid perhaps ill-advised. Do you use your 997 daily? Is it a weekend car only? Is maintenance cost a factor? Your take on these will decide whether you make the right decision.
Now is it a burning "want" that you have to fulfill? If so, go for it, you only live once!

I owned a Gallardo (the first 04 to be made in RWD) and in AWD form I'd rather have a Toyota Pickup truck since it drives that way just without the hauling room. The exhaust weighs a ton a is restrictive (a must to be changed) the V10 can have issues (like oil seal leaks) and it draws way too much attention not to mention the fact in a year you will probably loose 30K over what you paid for it. It you want an exotic buy a gearshift 430 coupe, it is a good as you can get out of the box. I still miss mine.
Thank you everyone so far for your extremely valuable input! I'd love to hear from anyone else that has(d) a Gallardo.
Mr Price, the losing $30k in a year is certainly a considerable factor here especially since I was thinking of owning it for only a year then trade it in for a preowned flying spur since I wanted something luxurious that can seat 3 in the back. This Specific Gallardo is 6MT and I prefer something that is AWD since I'm in the northeast and plan to drive it in the winter as well. The 430 as I understand it is RWD, so perhaps a 612 Scaglietti is an option? Have you (or anyone else in this forum) had any experience with those?
I'd like to reiterate that this next AWD exotic would be a purchase to keep for a year then will trade for a more family sized car. If there are any other suggestions for something that would retain value for a year then that would be extremely helpful as well.
Thanks in advance!

Also any input on the fact that the Continental GT was purchased as a fleet vehicle (registered in RI) per CarFax?
Does this mean that it was used for exotic rentals or corporate transportation (or any of the above?).
I also found another one similarly priced and optioned that has 1290mi and never been titled. Does this mean it was used for test drives or as a showroom car? Can it be trusted?
Should I get an indy to do an inspection? It only has below 2k miles. Thanks again

The Macan is a fantastic car, especially for the price. Does not feel like a traditional sports car, but drives kinda like a larger, higher 911, rather than a SUV.
10 year old Lambo while cool is still 10 years old and we are now in the era of cheap power. 500hp in 2005 was exotic. Not anymore. A brand new Ford Shelby gt350 or Chevy Camaro Z28 will have more power and better performance than the Lambo. And you may even get money back on the 911 trade in!

Tons of used Gs on the market already. Nobody is going to want yours in a year's time. Especially a 2005 model with 500 hp.
Solution: keep the 911 (as its a facelift with DFI engine) and rent a G for a weekend every now and then.

I have to agree with the others here that are saying to keep the 997 and forego the G. If you plan to semi-DD the car the 997 is the way to go.
Good luck.
LOL you are not driving a Gallardo in NE winter not unless you plan on spend 50K at the body shop. I have pretty much owned every brand of car that has been made over the last 40+ years and AWD or not these cars are not going to stay in one piece very long if you do that. I suggest to try Ferrarichat some pretty good people who know these cars are there, and Bentley is a piece of crap buy a new S class. You seem way to hung on the brand name because let me shine a light for you no car over 50K is sensible!!!
I own a 2005 gallardo as well as a 996 c2
The 996/997 are very daily friendly. The Lambo can be a ***** driven in traffic and the attn is too much
You will need a daily car if you own an exotic. If that is a deal breaker than don't do it
My gallardo has been as reliable as my 996. I could even argue it is better bc of the RMS issue with 996. Also, gallardo is diy friendly if you are a shade tree mechanic. You actually don't need to take it to the dealer so finding an indept shop is a very good option if you don't wrench
Simply put, gallardo is more reliable than Ferrari 360 and 430 bc of German engineering. Parts are cheaper too and some share w Audi.
Performance, it will not be as fast as a 458, Huracan, gtr. But gallardo sounds orgasmic as a true exotic should. It gets more attn than a 458.
If you only keep it for a year, u would advice joining an exotic partial ownership club instead. It is cheaper and you can sample other cars too
