Hello all
I'm concerned I changed my oil and filter 2k ago I put in 8 or 9 quarts of Mobil 0/40 synthetic. When done I used the automatic oil level function and it registered 1 tick below max, now 2K miles later it's reading 1 tick above the minimum oil level. I also noticed that when I start the car in the morning the oil pressure gauge goes all the way up to 5 and stays there for a good while however at idle it drops back to around 2. I checked the coolant and there is no oil in it, could I have fried my o-rings? How many quarts does the digital min-max measurement represent. I'm so bummed! Bought it at 17K it now has 47k and the only service I've done is change the oil& filter. PLEASE HELP! Thanks mike

I am thinking that you have not noticed clouds of gray smoke just starting or you would have said so.

The gauge reading is normal and is a good sign of healthy engine. If you are saying you have used "2 ticks" of oil since you changed it you have used .8 qts of oil in 2000 miles. Many owners out there would tell you that is pretty good. You could try switching to a full synth like Motul X series 5-40. Do a search.

What I don't get is why you are first changing oil in 30k miles and how come you did not run it dry a long time ago at this rate of oil consumption. Maybe I'm not reading this right. Also you have had it for this long and are just noticing how oil pressure reads?

You are not helping things if you have changed oil only once in 30K miles and could have caused excessive ring/bore wear. Or maybe you meant to post this on April 1.

Neway, good luck with this.

First. the oil pressure readings are normal. With a cold engine the pressure will stay at 5 for awhile until the temp rises. After that it should read about 1.2-2 at idle and increase with revs to 5 depending on rpm. You have about 7-8 quarts of oil in your car. The electronic reading reads only the top 1.2 quarts of oil. After your oil change, it will take about 30 minutes for the new oil to settle in the system. As a result it might go down a notch. To go down one additional notch after 2K miles is no big deal. You seem to be consuming oil at the rate of 1 qt/3-4k miles?

1 qt per 1,000 is considered normal for most sports car; this includes Porsches. Others will tell you that they use less if none at all. I would worry if it uses 1 qt per 750 miles.

I do notice that my car uses more oil when i do aggressive driving.

As recommended by others, try switching to a different oil brand.

I drive quite aggressively out in the country early mornings and burn about 1 qt every 2500 miles. I also have a seeping RMS seal that will get fixed when the clutch goes. If I park on a hill for any extended period of time there is slight bluish smoke when turning the car on. When parked flat no smoke. I also have some relatively even soot on the exhaust tips, both sides. Blackstone oil analysis came back with very low wear metals compared to universal averages.

All of this is somewhat normal for a p-car. 2006 C2S pushing 90K miles for reference.

Exact same here... on all counts including rms leak. but im at 42k miles.

ive recently switched to motul and my consumption is nearly zero and the car runs noticeably better, and idles smoother as well.
I am running 5w 40 in lieu of the mobil 0w 40.

In the end... it would be appreciated if my car had a manual dipstick.

I was concerned with the statement "put in 8 or 9 quarts" - if you don't know what was added then how can you have any confidence that the low reading is due to consumption or just not having the correct fill. The min/max difference on the indicator is 1.2l.

I have an 07 C2S and go through a liter of Motul 5/40 synthetic every 1200 km or so. I get a bit if grey smoke at start up when bone cold. I can't find a mechanic anywhere to tell me this is a problem. I have read tons about it and the Porsche spec saying 1 liter per 600 miles is within spec. For the life of me I can't understand how this can't have a bad long term effect on the engine. I have 60000 miles on the clock. Fingers crossed it really is 'normal!'

Unless this is a sudden change, random tolerance stacking within the engine usually accounts for this kind of thing. Some use more oil than others. It would only have a bad effect if you tell yourself something like "well I add a qt of new oil a month so why change it" What happens there is a concentration of contaminants and graduall breakdown of lubrication. Add oil as needed, change regularly and while not heartwarming this should not cause any complications long term or otherwise.

Factually this post (OP) just doesn't ring true to me. If a car is using a qt every 2-3k miles and you ignore it for 30K miles....
