Hey guys! I'm new to the forum and have enjoyed reading everything! So as the title says, i just bought a (new to me) 997.1 4S. What i'd like to do is "update" the look a bit by adding LED lighting to the running light area and do some performance upgrades that won't break the bank.
For those of you who have upgraded to LED running lights, where did you get them?
What upgrades should I do to my 4S to enhance the performance?
Welcome to the 4S club, it is a great car. The mods to performance depend on whether you plan to track, autocross or just daily drive the car. I have made mods to my 4S for track and autocross.
Hello Bensurdi and welcome. I have an '08 997.1 cab. I've installed front LED running lights as well as LED rears, and am very pleased with the updated look. I bought them and had them installed by Delrey Customs of Marina del Rey, CA. Their prices are reasonable, and I've had the lights for over a year with no issues at all. They make a huge difference in the car's appearance.
As to performance, I drive it strictly on the street. Not really a "performance" mod, I've installed the extremely popular Fister mufflers which provide a great sound, not too loud and absolutely zero drone. I've also installed an IPD fuel plenum and GT3 throttle body, which boosted the performance somewhat (seat of the pants estimate).
I also had the Dension500 BT unit installed, which gives you complete Bluetooth integration with the stock Bose audio unit. You can see streaming song titles on the nav screen, and make phone calls as well (iPhone 6). For me, since I'm not an audiophile, this was a better solution than spending $2000 on a complete new setup.
I've made a few other small tweaks here and there, but these are the main cosmetic and performance mods.
This should be enough to help you start emptying your wallet.
we need to see pics or...you know, how do we know you really have it...and what color, interior...and on and on...congradts, great car, especially the targa...!
Car looks great, I had a 996 Targa for 9 years, loved it. I now have an 08 C4 cab and recently installed the led drl's, although they're not true drl's. I ordered them on eBay and installed them myself, in addition to a small resistor to avoid error codes. They work & look great, great upgrade, imo.
I have a 997.1 C4S as well and my FAVORITE modification and bang for the buck power increase is : K&N Intake Kit 57-7000 . It costs about $350, but you can find some places for less than $300. My favorite mod. http://www.knfilters.com/search/prod...x?prod=57-7000 This modification will greatly improve your throttle response and especially the power curve between 4500-5500 rpm is greatly improved. Porsche's have a slight flat spot in power between 4500-5500 as the engine cam is kicking in and intake manifold valve adjusts. Both the IPD Plenum and the K&N Intake kit greatly improve this area. With either the K&N intake OR the IPD Plenum the Dyno charts show greatest power gains of 20+ horsepower in 4500-5500 rpm with about a 10-15 hp bump near 7000 rpm. The IPD plenum is closer to $800 with similar results as the K&N kit. I have both and It seems that both together worked out really nice for me. They of course do not produce 40 hp together, as most bolt ons are not worth their advertised hp each, but work really well as a unit. I feel that the K&N does a real nice job by itself to make a noticeable power increase between 4500-5500 . OH, and the sound! The sound alone is worth $300 bucks.... the sound is really great. Seriously adds a real nice intake scream/howl from 5000-7300 rpm. At that point the intake mods seem to reach a limit and you need to upgrade the throttle body and the exhaust system. To get the maximum you will have to add a ecu tuning upgrade to get the max from bolt on power.
After that my other favorite mods are:
- the Dectane rear LED tail lights.
-GT2 side skirts work on C4S wide bodies
-5 or 7 mm wheel spacers for the front wheels. with extended bolts
-10-15 mm spacers in the rears for your car with extended bolts
-itranzit blue (very inexpensive blue tooth radio add on for older cars like ours)
-and... $$$$$$$$$ it can go on and on.
Congrats on your purchase. Welcome to the club and enjoy the ride!!
I'm thinking I want to put a more aggressive front end on the porsche along with updated signal lights etc. I found this front bumper, what do you guys think of this? http://www.vividracing.com/catalog/2...150911054.html

Get the OEM one it's about the same price and nothing beats oem.
I've been looking at 996/997tt, but the 997 Targa has caught my eye. The glass roof seems to offer an awesome driving experience.
3 questions if you don't mind:
1) Is it true the Targa has extra cargo capacity directly behind the rear seats? How big is that area? Can it store a few grocery bags? Any chance you can take a pic of this area?
2) With the Targa, can one add a spoiler similar to that of the turbo's?
3) I'm getting the impression that finding a Targa is no easy task. OP, mind me masking how much paid for it relative to list price?
