997S vs. F355

Looking for weekend car, got it narrowed down to F355 (98 or 99) or a 997S. e46 M3 is the DD. Anyone driven both the Ferrari and the 997S?

I knew it was more reliable, and better for my height (I'm 6-4) but several people at a recent car show insisted that the F355 is faster. Anyone else? (not that I don't trust you, it's just that I have conflicting answers now hehe).

997 will beat the **** out of the F355. Also, it will be 10 times more reliable.

I wouldn't even compare the two cars as far as speed, handling, reliability, refinement, warranty, on & on.

Porsche 997S for sure.

Being a fan of both cars, I think it really depends on what you are looking for in a weekend car. IMO, the F355 will get more looks because it looks more exotic. I have the 997s because it gives me both...the reliablity I need during the week when I need to get to meetings and such, and it also gives me the fun I want on the weekends.

I would love to have both in my stable to be honest, along with a Lambo, but for now I'm loving my 997s.

I love both, I would definetly take the 355 over the 997S because of it's looks, and prestige. But the 997S wins over the 355 in every single other catagorie. You can't go wrong with either!

I've drove the F355, 997s and E46 M3. We play around with the F355 and M3 once and they were par up to 200km/h. So 997S will be way faster!! F355 has more bling factor. If you get the 997S, I'm sure you will sell the M3 very soon and take the 997S as daily drive!!

I think a more fair comparison would be between an early model 360 and the 997S, even though the 360 is a little more money. Here you can have a real dilemma trying to weigh the fun factor(360) vs. reliability(997S), more looks(360), way lower maintenance(997S), less depreciation(360), and so on. I would think the performance would be about evenly matched.

I see your points and I think they're valid, but c'mon guys, it's an F355. The classic Ferrari look and the fact that it's a Ferrari (true Italian sports car), and the sound itself (especially with a Tubi) justifies buying the car. I'm a huge Porsche fan but I don't know about taking the 997s.

I admit, maintenance of a mid-engined Ferrari is a huge factor though (dropping the engine for routine maintenance = $$$$).

Sounds like you have already made up your mind. The 997S has the factory warranty. What kind of warranty will you have with the F car??

I wish I had your disposable income!

I used to have a 355 w/ tubi exhaust. The Ferrari looks and sounds better, altough super clean cars seem to be hard to find. All other categories go to the 997.
