997.1 Dash Rattle near Passenger Speaker / Vent - Solved itself by loosening

Hi all,

Interesting problem occured over the weekend. Friday night I heard the beginining of a rattle near the passenger side vent/speaker (next to the airbag). I thought I'd alert OPC at next service (due in the next few months), but wasnt going to hold my breath given their history of not being very helpful with rattles under warranty.

Anyway, here's where the interesting bit happens.. The rattle stopped all of a sudden as I rounded a corner, with what sounded like a metallic object rolling away from the turn (all the way to passenger side). Eventually it stopped when it hit the passenger side of the dash, and then subsequently I heard it drop down onto what seemed like a metallic panel below it. I expected to see the "mystery object" fall into the passenger foot well, such was the closeness of the noise.

It was like a bolt had come loose and fallen down or something??

So my question is... What could it be that has rattled itself loose inside there? And where is the object likely resting now?? I have since used A/C with no problems, and the vent seems to work.. The speaker also works..

Is there any easy access to see inside the dash? Does the side panel come off the dash??

Thanks again, any advice much appreciated !

shameless bump.. 350 views and nobody has anything to offer? :-)

For what its worth, when cornering under heavy braking, I can hear what sounds like the offending part moving around still

If the car is still running, why bother about a loose bolt?

Enjoy the silence.
