My Problem Smogging my 09 Carrera

Went to get my baby smogged. I live in Cali. They changed the law this year before they just cared about emissions. Now, it, computer settings and you can't have any errors. In previous years you could have up too 2 faults. Now, you can have zero. So my computer kept coming up with a fault. The emissions were fine. The tech was like "if you removed the battery or haven't driven it in awhile it does this."

Say what? So, you have to drive it like 80 to 100 miles. So, like a dum bunny off I went on a nice drive down the Coast and back. Once you pay for the test they will test it again for free. But, I had my friend check the computer with his machine. Same fault. Ugh, called the dealer they said they have heard of this problem since the new law. So, I had my flash removed set back to factory specs. Zip, Nada, Zilch.

Off the the dealer bada boom bada bing. Back to the smog guy it passes. So, if you have a problem smogging. No matter how much you drive it nothing will get better. Back to your Dealer you must go. Got my reflash back and look at these nice cars in the shop.

I had a similar issue with my 2009 C4S in California. The report "Vehicle failed due to OBD system incomplete. Hoehn Porsche charged me $160.00 less 10% as a PCA member to drive the car "through a specific cycle" to get the OBD system to function. The car battery had been disconnected by Hoehn Porsche during a service about 800 miles prior to my test failure.

Mike, they should refund your money. In your Warranty all smog related issues are warrantied for 8 years. The fault was caused by them. None, of our cars have issues with emissions. It's usually ERG, computer related fault. All emissions pass.

I thought a car doesn't need to be smogged in CA until it is 7 years old? I guess it would make sense if your was built this time in 08

Also, I think the smog warranty is very long - 8 or 10 years I believe

The laws were changed this year. Reading is fundamental. My car is a 2009.

Darn CA smog laws ! Anyway, long story short your factory warranty should cover it.
