The water temp dashboard gauge on our cars is more of an idiot light than an accurate temperature gauge. It will mostly read 175F unless it is overheating, then it will shoot up fast. The actual water temp will vary much more than when the gauge reads 175F. I believe you can see the actual temperature with the OBDII data logger feature in the Durametric software. Not sure if the bluetooth OBDII phone apps like Torque can see the real water temp though.

You smell a rat do you? Porsche doesn't want drivers getting upset about normal fluctuations in water temps. I guess you could say it is "Faulty By Design". Watch the oil temp gauge.

Yes, only the Oil temp gauge will tell you what is going on: should be between 200 and 225-230 stuck in Traffic Jams.

My oil temp gage usually settles in around 225 during the summer months after some extended highway driving or combination highway/city. I have had a few instances when the ambient temp was 90F+ and the oil temp approached 240-250 during spirited driving.

As previously mentioned, the water temp gage is fairly useless.
