My guess is his sending unit is on the way out or the contact is poor and being affected by seasonal changes.

Before I had mine replaced, my readings changes depending on temperature, relative humidity, and even me just playing with the contacts. Taking them off and cleaning them resulted in a lower reading but not a perfect reading.
Gauge needle barely moves during "test". From bottom of 0 line to top of it. It was consistent and "normal' before last change. Consistent but high after. Now it is back to reading quite consistently 'normal' since I changed the Motul out. As I said I am not a big believer in coincidence. Just reporting what I have experienced but I agree it is strange. I had expected to get high or weird pressure readings and was prepared to have sensor replaced. We'll see. No one using Motul should stop if there is no problem based on this. The only reason I posted was because others had reported pressures changes. Thanks.

I switched to Motul 8100 two oil changes ago and my car runs cooler and uses very little oil compared to when it was using Mobil 1. I have sent the oils the last 2 oil changes and the results have come back great! As a matter of fact, Blackstone always recomends prolonging the oil changes due to the fact that the additives are still intact.

You are preaching to a believer. I believe it is a superior lubricant and have posted that often. I am reporting an issue. May try another batch next year and/or swap out sensor. Just very strange.

Gauge/sensor is now reading wrong with M1. Problem is indeed the sensor. Thanks

Why start a thread, build it up, reach a conclusion... and then a post later bring everything down, based on wrong observations?

For someone who casually starts reading the thread the conclusion is brand X of oil is bad... NOT!

I reported an ongoing issue, investigated and followed it over time and then reported my findings and the resolution. This is the purpose of this message board. It behooves anyone following a post to read the entire post and not to jump to conclusions. You of all people should know this as well as anyone on this or any other message board. Reread my entire post which covers a couple of months and then if you have any further problems here feel free to send me a PM. Thanks for your input.

The problem is this thread reaches a conclusion right at its title:

‘Reporting Problem W Motul 5-40’

Two weeks into the thread (Post # 11) a confirmation: “I have to conclude the problem was with the viscosity of the batch of Motul 5-40 Excess”

I think that a much better thread would have been one with this title:

‘Reporting Oil Pressure Problem’

followed by appropriate diagnosis.

Thanks for help.
Didn't you know? OP's car is able to generate pressure even while off! That's what bothered me...

I agree also. At the time I started the post the issue of causation seemed clear to me. What I posted is what I observed. I changed oil and now I had high oil pressures. The question I was asking for comment on was "how could this oil cause excessively high oil pressures".

In hindsight my initial premise was faulty and based on circumstantial evidence. It was a bush league error on my part. Mea Culpa. As to the oil, I have always been an advocate for Motul over M1 and have taken flack for that over the years.

Let the record show that next change it will be back to 5-40 Motul. And I have to replace the f#!$%& sensor. There were a lot of folks who figured that out faster than I did. Thanks again
