Lake Park Mitsubishi - North Palm Beach Florida
Just a quick heads up to anyone looking to do business with this dealership... especially via online auctions.
Yesterday, I was the high bidder on an ebay auction from Lake Park Mitsubishi in North Palm Beach Florida. The title of the auction was:
2006 Porsche 911 Carrera S Cabriolet 3.8L Manual RWD Premium Coupe ~L@@K~NO RESERVE!!!!!!~
I immediately sent an email via ebay with my name, address and phone number to arrange payment and pickup.
After not hearing anything on the car, I called the dealership at 11am. Mifflin Hood, the Assistant Sale Manager was listed as the contact on the auction. He was evidently on another call so I left a message with the receptionist that I was calling for a purchase agreement and email address to send the information for payment.
At 4pm, I had still not received a call, so i called Mifflin at his direct number listed in the auction (561-232-5810) and get no answer so i leave another message. Not hearing back from this, and not wanting this to hang out there forever, I message again via ebay and the contact form they used in the auction format. At 7:30PM, I still have not contact so I call the dealership again. Now the main number (561-994-2000) goes to voicemail, Mifflin Hood's phone number goes to voicemail. They are supposed to be is open till 8 pm, so i try the number listed on CarGurus.com. Someone answers, then hangs up on me. Knowing someone is there, I call the main number back again. I ask for information on an ebay auction and after several minutes Mifflin Hood is on the phone. He asks to have me hold while he "gets the file" after a very long hold, he is back on the phone and saying he has good news and bad news. The bad news is: "it wasn't supposed to be a no reserve auction" (see the auction title, so purposefully typed) but they would sell the car to me for more than 3,500 than my winning bid, in the auction that there own terms and conditions call " a legally binding contract to purchase this vehicle"
Of course, I don't have any interest in overpaying for a car from a dealer that really appears to have just flat out lied to me about the auction.
So, beware if you are dealing with this dealer. You may not have the same experience as I did, but something seriously not right just happened here. It seems like dealers just keep changing the rules after the fact, and there is no one holding them accountable. Hopefully someone will see this post before they waste their time.
And remember, "Don't make the mistake of missing out on this one. Please contact Mifflin Hood @ (561) 232-5810"

The thing is, once they don't honor something as simple as the price of an auction, how do you trust them to do anything else right?
At the end of the day, Ebay is unwilling or unable to force performance of its sellers. I think an attorney may have luck with this, but again then you are doing business with someone that you no longer trust and the whole thing becomes so negative.
