In MY 05 and early production 06 the only sure way to know which bearing you have is to drop the trans and inspect it. The majority of failures have been in MY 05. I am not sure what more information you need to make your decision. If you absolutely need to rule out bearing replacement as insurance against possible engine failure I would not go w an 05 if I were you. Good luck.

I have an early 05. Under warrenty until 2019, but before it is up, if it hasn't been replaced, I will have it done. What is the typical cost for this?

yup... based on the lawsuit you are in the original smaller bearing range (based on build date). the cross over i believe was early feb 2005.

it almost seems like for some it might be better to have an older car and simply replace the IMS and do the IMS Solution and add that to the purchase of the car (or if you happen to have an extended warranty, do it just before the warranty runs out, assuming it hasn't failed and covered by the warranty already)?

So instead of having a 2007 with the risk of having to pay a ton of money if there is a failure (less chance on these engines, but higher cost) you have a higher chance of failure but a lower cost preventative fix?

Anyone know what it costs to have this work done by itself? Seems like the video says about $800 for the solution parts and 1 hr labor if it is done with the trans is already down and being fixed. What about if it isn't? (i usually get a lot of life out of my clutches)

If you are worried about it just buy it and put in a new EPS IMS roller bearing. IMS bearing is a cheap fix when you look at the big picture in maintaining a 911.

I agree, i wanted an 05 S just so i can put the oil pressured plain bearing ims soultion on it, rms-imsSoulution-clutch-fly wheel= 5k
05 S=38k+5k shop work=43k
Still 15k to 22k cheaper than 09 S

But i couldnt figure out how to tell whats in the 05 engine,,if it was upgradeable or not

Dont count humans short, i bet somebody one day will come up with a solution for all 997s post 05..

Has there been a problm with those running unseald bearings..?
