rodH is infamous around these parts
I was thinking about this the other day. Porsche markets this car to the hardcore porsche phile who wants a very core product (6mt, etc) and then they give 918 owners first dibs while previous GT3, GT4 owners don't. I know a guy that can easily afford a 918, but actually takes his cars to the track and drives them. Seems like "the rich" and not "the drivers" are the ones that get to buy these cars. What a bummer

My opinion is that "exclusivity" is what drives the demand on this car, and "purist experience" is the secondary focus and the marketing ploy to justify the exclusivity.

Imagine Porsche offers this car NOT as a separate model, but simply a readily available 6MT version of GT3. We can predict how it turns like on other top dollar sports car -- manual take rate would be very low. But if it's an exclusive model, suddenly you have wealthy buyers lining up to pre-order one, possibly justifying it as an investment. And what does Porsche get out of it besides tons of profit? They get to show they still cater to the purist who loves rowing gears, even though most of them don't get to buy one, but that's their own problems.

Very well said and summarized. It is all a marketing ploy.

Yeah a very good one at that. Don't know if I should be annoyed or praise them. I think it does both for me. Same kinda logic I mentioned a few posts back
