Is that a 997.1 oil filler? That's condensation (water) mixed with oil. Take lots of short trips without getting the oil really hot?

Yes. 997.1 oil filler. No, have not been taking short trips. At least they're long enough to get the oil temp up to 200 deg. I've only had the car about 10 days. It's got 62K miles.

So if you ve only had the car 10 days then in fact maybe it has been run on short trips? No big deal. Change oil, clean that cap area out as best you can and see if it comes back. Keep an eye on the coolant level too just in the slim case you have coolant finding it s way in (That would be bad but not likely)...

That is a very common sight in colder climates. It happens in cold weather when the engine doesn't get hot enough to burn off any moisture in the system. This is typically associated with short trips in your car. I think you need more than just getting the oil warmed up. You need to drive for a while to burn off the moisture. If you don't, then the moisture condenses in the filler neck when you turn off the engine. It then causes the oil on the inside of the filler neck to emulsify and produce the goo seen in the photos.

Give you car a nice 30 minute drive every so often and that should take care of it.

BTW, it takes time to build that much condensation...

It's normal; gross, but normal. Freaked me out the first time I saw it on my mom's E320; I thought she blew a head gasket!

It is normal for cars in colder climates that don't run long enough at temp. Try driving a few times for 30+ minutes with the oil temp at 200.

Exactly the case for me in my old C2S for fall driving. My drive to work is ~25 minutes and that was still not enough. Problem disappeared in the late spring and summer time.

Thanks, all. I guess I'll have to drive it more. Gee. That's so annoying.

Start taking the long way home. Aim for 210+ for 20 minutes. Change oil 2x year. You don't want to see that much condensation/frothing in your oil.

Btw, when my first girlfriend asked me that I grabbed my pants and ran
