Maserati

Anyone have any experience with Maserati GranTurismo? I've seen a few in the past few months and they peaked my interest - they are damn gorgeous. I didn't know much about the car and started to read about them and learn about their market value. I do love my 911 4s and not sure if it would be a mistake to eventually look in this direction. I'm more of a Gran touring kind of guy, it might be a car I'd enjoy - they seem to be a heavy car and seem to be a bit on the slower side....but dang, those curves! I would also eventually consider a 991, I think I'd like the lower end torque and a slightly larger feel - personal preference....anyway, I'd like to drive the Maserati - anyone have one??

Love the look of those too, and they sound great, but know nothing about them. They also look to have a quite a usable rear seat that's larger than the 997 or 991. Aren't they powered by a Ferrari-built motor? That's the part I'd check into as you won't get the same reliability out of that as you do your 997 and the servicing costs are quite high I think.

FWIW...my buddy's dad went from a 997 4s to a Gran Turismo for 8 months...went back to 997.2 4s Cab. His words were "Yea, the Maserati was sexy, sounded good, and turned heads - but it didn't gimme that drive like the Porsche" He missed the 911. The Gran Tursimo is too slow for the price for me. I think they are gorgeous cars all around though.

My two cents: the ******bag factor seems to be much higher with Maserati drivers, just sayin'

Wow, what have we come to when people are saying 400+ hp is too slow. 450 may not make it a track star but it is enough for some fun. I would have more issue with the weight but since I wouldn't track it who cares.

Its sexy and it sounds good.

Its a big car...400HP isn't enough for something that sounds like it does and to be a coupe...of course my opinion. 0-60 times are 4.5-5.2 on those - quick...but not Mustang GT or Camaro SS. Honestly - the new Camaro V6 can get to 60 in about 5 seconds flat along with Nissan Zs and whatnot. If that doesn't bother you though; its a fine car. Coming from a 911 I could see how people would go back.

If you like the Maserati, I'd also consider the new 2017 Panamera. From all accounts, it is now quite a looker, and has the performance to match. Choices, choices...

I had an 08 GT for almost two years or so, got rid of it for my current '11 c2s

I'll see if I can remember some quick pluses and minuses:

+Obviously, looks
+Interiors of 2010s+ are very nice, 08-09 is pretty bland however
+Makes great sounds, the 09s and 2010+ have sport mode which opens the valves
+Fast/quick considering how heavy the car is
+Heated seats and heat worked very well in winter
+Engine/tranny are rock-solid
+Keeps pulling and pulling towards redline, doesn't run out of breath
+MC Shift version GT has the best/funnest tranny
+Sound system is pretty decent

-Tranny is pretty bland even when using paddle shifters. It's still an automatic.
-Attracts attention. I hate people, so this was a negative for me. And I didn't even have a flashy color, it was a greyish/silver!
-A/C was terrible
-Eats through tires
-Must be driven almost daily, if not, get a battery tender. They tend to be very flaky if not driven regularly. My car almost locked me inside one day during the summer.
-Heated seat **** is in a very awkward position
-Roof liner can fall off due to sitting in heat, mine was replaced by dealer as a "we owe you"
-Steering wheel cover can warp from heat

Overall it was a pretty decent experience. If I did it again I would definitely get one under a lease with a warranty. No way would I own one out of warranty again! Too risky.

Some people have had issues with the "lifters", which can be an expensive repair if they go bad. I'm not sure if this is due to abuse or not waiting for the oil temp before playing.

I agree with most of this which is why I'd opt for 12+ Gran Turismo S CPO or a stradale if you can stretch the budget they are going for cheap these days, which is much more engaging than the pre updated trans 08-10. One thing to consider the Gran Turismo is a GT car where the 911 is a sportscars they drive almost completely different.

I like that the GT is a rarer car, 911s are on every block here with every color combo possible. Also the GT is a timeless design consider it's an 8 year old design and still looks stunning most people think it's a 200k+ car. Personally I'm willing to give up on the horsepower difference of a comparable 911 gts for the rarity. If it's a 911 Turbo vs a GT then you're talking about a whole new can of worms i'd opt for a Turbo personally but can see how someone would get a GT instead if they don't need the power.

Supringsly enough I get way more nice comments driving around a 14 Gran Cabrio than any Fcar i've driven (F430, 599, 360) People always give you **** in a Fcar about random crap you're killing the environment, rich dbag comments, etc constantly I find. I have yet to get that in the Gran Cabrio.

My wife wants one, I want a 911 GTS. We looked at the GT and the sound is fantastic. I noticed the compromised trunk space (raised gas tank?) like the 04-06 GTO. I also love having a sunroof and they are not available either.

Gorgeous car though.

I've been mulling the idea of either a 09-10 Maserati granturismo or an Aston Martin Vantage..i think after research if i was to do it i'd go with the Aston..but i am almost 100% sure i will end up eventually selling whatever i buy and go back to a Porsche 911..the reliability combined with the value & exhilaration we get with our cars are almost unmatched
