What I do not understand is why if you are going to give us 483 that you would not just push a bit harder and give us 500. On a car with a turbo that is not hard for the factory to do.

I don't get the huge concern for horsepower numbers. If the 997 Turbo has less than 500 hp but will do 0-60 in 3.5 seconds and 0-100 in the 7's why flounder around just because some other car can "brag" about it's horsepower number?
I agree with your points, but this car will not be revolutionary, it will be evolutionary. The power curve won't be drastically different than the curves seen on the current 996TT/S, unless like they said there might be a new type of turbo. It will just big a bigger version of the current power curve. If it did the #'s you were talking about, I would have no problems with it, but it won't. Like people have pointed out here already this car will get even heavier, and the hp will only be marginally improved.

hoping for a 0-60 of 3.5 and 0-100 in 7s in a bit optimistic. The Carrera Gt only just does those figures,Porsche wont release a turbo that is faster than the GT.

There is supposed to be a new variable vane turbo, and I believe the power curve *will* be different versus the 996 Turbo.

An X50 Turbo has already been tested at 3.7 sec 0-60. And a non-X50 Turbo has recorded a 0-100 time of 8.9 sec. The X50 should be around 8.7 sec. With variable vane turbos, and some minor work on the gearing (like Porsche did with the 997), the 0-60 time of 3.5 is a no-brainer. With the power curve, turbo size, and gearing changes a 0-100 time of 7.99 should also be within reach.

I heard that from my dealers head tech guy in service that races and knows these cars better than anyone I ever met.
He was telling me that the HP may not be increased so much, but he also said that the HP will be there in a much wider band from the 996tt.

IMO, Porsche is gonna make the new 997TT kick some serious *** just like any other turbo that has come out..
The looks are pretty much the same and they know it.. I think that the new 997TT is gonna be a very hot ticket just because of its mindblowing performance that is yet to come..

They are gonna make the TT hot as hell again just like in 01 and they know exactly what they are doing.
IMO, I think that they know if thatn this new turbo dont kick ***, its all over for that car.

Turbo will have Variable Turbine Geometry (VTG) thats been used in Diesel engines since the early 90's. Its a mechanism that continuously adjust the angle of the compressor's turbine blades to most effectively push exhaust gases from the engine onto the turbochargers turbine wheel. This basically combines the benefits of small and large turbochargers into one unit allowing responsiveness and high torque at low engine speeds, and superior output and performance at higher engine speeds. I for one can't wait to drive this thing!

Regarding the comment that the turbo won't be less powerful than an SUV, wasn't the last model??

Well, I guess we will be able to see what the differences will be when they come out. If the power curve is different then I can't wait to see the results.
