Le Chef is infamous around these parts
Went from B5 S4 (250hp TT) to 996 C4S and now with 997S.

I felt more comfortable initially going from awd to awd.

No comparison in any area of performance.

Like my sig says. I have a 2001 B5 S4 (GIAC chip to 320 HP, short shifter)--now my winter car.

Bought a 2005 911 S Cab last June. Different cars for different purposes. The 911 clearly handles better, is quicker, and of course is a convertible -- the best car I have ever owned, hands down. AWD and winter tires (as well as better ground clearance) on the S4 are better for winter.

Now that I have the 911 my next project may be to go to Stage 3 on my S4 for the hell of it (new turbos, downpipes, ECU chip, 440 Hp, 512 torque--about a 10-12K investment).

I bought a C2 911 and kept the S4 for winter instead of waiting for a C4 Cab. One, I didn't want to wait. Two, it was actually cheaper to keep the S4 and buy the C2 911. Three, now that's its winter, as long as there is no snow on the ground I drive the 911 anyway.

So we have 2 b5'ers. No B6'ers?
Only thing about going stage 3 on the S4, you will then leave more to be desired from the p-car hence causing a competition in modification that will eventually drain your bank account.......
There is another guy on here that has a 996 x50 with a stage 3 b5 s4. He actually says the S4 is a little faster than the x50 as it stands. Of course after he chips the x50 it will be a very different story.
I dont have a 997, but I did just get a Cayenne Turbo to replace my stage 3 2005 B6 S4. Love having turbos and will probably not own a NA car for a play car again.

then you should of gotten a 996TT as a "play car" I'll be looking into either a 996TT or a 997 S later this year...and have a Stage 3 B5 S4 currently. I'm thinking I might like the 997S since I already have a TT AWD car...but then again, the modibilityof the 996TT is just sooo appealing

Trovan went from a B6 S4 to a 996 C4S. That is probably as close as you are going to get.

i actually still have both. but won't be able to answer you question since you are talking about a 997S. i could tell you that having test driven the 997S few times, it is absolutely amazing compared to both my c4s or s4. it felt faster and much more refined from the c4s. same apply to the s4 while handling remained superb even compared to the 4wd.

i am such a 997s fan and would definitely go for it. in fact, i treid to trade in both for a 997s few months ago.

Yeah. I got such a good deal on the CTT that it was hard to pass up. I did drive a 996TT the other day. It was a fun experience but I wont spend the coin unless it is an X50. I think there is one coming in off lease in the next few weeks that I might take a closer look at.

I also have to have a vehicle that I can take clients in and the 996 is not that. The CTT is my daily, the X50 would be the play car. We'll see what happens..........in the meantime, it is cool to read about guys making 6/7/800 HP in the 996TT's.

I might even be a candidate for a 997TT.................in a few years when the newness wears off.
