997s vs. 2006 GTO 6.0L

Is it possible that the GTO can be that much faster than our cars. I saw one embarass an e46 m3 by a few car lenghts and I can only get an M3 by maybe 2 lenghts at times. Could it be that a car 1/3 of the price could actually be that much quicker?

The only GTO I have seen in a race was at the track and it got beat by a new Saleen Mustang SC pretty easily.

A Saturn took me by four lengths the other night. Then I happened to throttle an M5. Some days my cars hot, some days it's not. She is truly moody this lovely lemon of mine.

Both cars stock? Properly driven the 997S will be faster.

Guys who cares if a Pontiac GTO beats you in the straight line. The new Mustang Cobra will walk a 997S when it comes out but you could not give me 10 of them for one 997 on trade. Straight line performance is over rated and I have driven a GTO, it still feels like my Girlfriends Grandam, it just has an extra 250hp. Some people get way too tied up on straight line perfomance. I hated the GTO's drive, road feel, brakes and cornering ability.

Agree with Boyracer,
I bought a new 2004 Mustang Cobra once. Straight line performance was VERY good. I attempted to negotiate some corners as I had done in my 996 and almost went off the road.

Saturn ???

what about saturn? i know of a local one that put 437/390 to the ground and pulled over a g on the skid pad.

but of course, that person knew what they were doing.

and GTO's are a great bang-for-the-buck platform.

there is a local dodge caravan with the wood siding that runs 11.70s in the 1/4mile and looks bone stock. I am sure that would put the hurt on most 996TTs, doesnt mean i want the minivan lol. But hey to each his own, if someone enjoys drag racing, I applaud them on that. It is just not my cup of tea and I don't like when porsches are ranked based upon drag racing numbers. It does not do them justice.
