engine power reduced

when i drove her today she felt fine. but on stomping on the go pedal a warning on the dash came on "reduced engine power" on releasing the gas pedal the warning stopped. regular highway driving there was no warning and no evidence that there was something wrong. everything was perfect, shifting was good, idling at stop was good, moderate acceleration was good. the warning would only come out on rapid accleration. What gives? any ideas ladies and gents?

the same thing happened on my truck. Different car but same exact symptoms. Sounds like your MAF sensor. I had my computer scaned for codes and sure enough it was that. The car wasn't reading the proper air flow..as such, was making it think something was wrong. Jumping into a gaurdian mood (engine power reduce) to protect itself. Please let us know the outcome of your findings.

If your gas is old, put a bottle of HEET in the tank. Learned this from a very reputable Porsche Mechanic.

I asked the question because this happened to me in my 997 a year or so ago. I ended up not driving the car for s couple months (I know, surprised I'm not in the psych ward without my regular high-speed therapy sessions), but the car would drive fine in normal situations. When I would try and accelerate hard it would just die off, when I'd let up it would run fine again. Never stalled, idle was stable, etc. I was about an hour into a 4 hour trip when it first did this as I was trying to pass someone. Tried a couple more higher review pulls and same issue. After I used up the rest of that tank and refilled, the problem never happened again, and it hadn't happened before with the first half of that same tank used a couple months prior.

Sorry for the long story, but if those symptoms are similar to yours and you have either older gas in the tank, it's probably a little stale like mine was, or if you just filled up, might have gotten some bad gas.

Let us know.

Thanks for all the replies. Connected car to piwis. It said knock sensor fault. Looked around and sure enough rat bites on the wiring harness. The one damages was for the left bank.

german88 is infamous around these parts
What is with these cars and the rats? Never in my 30+ years of car ownership have I had rats chew on my wiring. Bought my first 911 this past year and now hear of regular occurrences... Porsche wire supplier must be adjacent to a cheese factory??

from what i know organic materials are being used for the insulation of the wires used for the porsche wiring harnesses. this makes it takes like chocolates for these pests
