Wheel Upgrade

So I'm thinking about getting new wheels for my summer tires. I saw the post from HRE and while those are really cool, they are also crazy expensive. Any recommendations from the forum members for some nice wheels that don't break the bank but also don't suck? Thanks in advance.

There is a set of pre-owned HRE in the FS section. Like you i can't see myself buy them new.

Wheel prices, not just HRE has gone outrageously expensive. Wheels should not cost over $8,000 a set. It's nearly $10,000 with a nice set of tires to go with it. Can I afford that, yes, do I want to, hell no. I remember HRE's used to cost $2,500 a set of 4. Such a lucrative business, no wonder there are new wheel companies every year.

I have Avant Garde M510, very reasonable for a brand new set. You can always browse the classifieds. OZ wheels, forgestar Victor Equipment are some reasonable price wheels.

I have the M510's as well in matte black and like the look....can't beat the price.

They are also called Ruger Splits.

I waited for this mint set of HRE s with tires to turn up on the forum. Was well worth the wait
You might also want to check out the HRE Flowform Series. Lower cost, same look.

Forgestar F14 w/Hancook Evo2 tires. Well under $3K with brand new TPMS sensors installed.

If you'll be doing any tracking, you should really use forged wheels milled from US made forgings - they're stronger and lighter. I'm installing some Forgelines (not to be confused with Forgestar, which are cast) on my 997 next week and currently have Champions.

1. Forged with US made forgings are the best
2. Forged with foreign made forgings are next
3. Then low-pressure cast, which goes by lots of different names to make them sound forged ("rotary forged" are low pressure cast, then rotary shaped)
4. Regular cast, which means gravity cast are the lowest quality versions that can have voids in the material and shouldn't really be installed on a Porsche due to the speeds and loads that can be achieved.

Look for used Forgeline, ADV1, Champion, HRE, or certain OEM Porsche wheels
Next: OZ, victor Equipment, BC Forged, Vossen, Niche, PUR, Strasse, Savini, Velos, Vorsteiner, AG, and there are some others too

Agreed true forged wheels are stronger but if I'm reading the OP correctly he's not looking to spend forged wheel $$.

From experience get what you want the first time...or will end up with multiple sets not saying there is anything wrong with that.

Do you have a narrow or widebody 997?

How do you feel about the HRE FF01 (top) and HRE FF15 (bottom)? Would you do a satin black or gloss black?

Love them both! Probably love the HRE FF01 ones a bit better, but they are both very sharp. I would go with satin black. I also saw the HRE P200 in Satin Charcoal in the HRE thread that we pretty slick as well.

$$?

Definitely the FF01. Too many and too skinny spokes on the FF15. I'm not a black wheel guy so I'll leave the finish decision to the black wheel aficionados.
