2006 4s 997 Engine problem

Hello all,
my gearbox has just faild on me, the housing itself was broken.
I bought a whole new gearbox then when i was about to install it the mechanic adviced me that the engine also does not look good he suspected a crunck shaft and a cylinder crack ( i am doubting that) .. now i stopped installing the gear and not sure if the engine is really broken or not. I shipped the car to the main dealer to chk if the engine is ok or not but they refused to even look at it because they said the car was worked on somewhere outside the main dealer.
1- I need to know if the engine is defective or not. Could it be a bad engine the cause the gear to break?
2- i am thinking about fixing the car myself, i think i will do better than the mechanics in my area. Where can i find an engine repair manual as PDF.

What does the mechanic see that leads him to believe the engine is damaged?

The RMS and IMS appear to be oil tight which is not a guarantee the engine's good but it is a good sign.

If you want remove the spark plugs and attempt to spin the engine by hand in its proper direction of rotation.

If you can spin the engine over with no problems then run a compression test checking each cylinder for reasonable compression. You will need to install a flywheel so you can use the starter to spin the engine. Use new flywheel bolts. And if you have to take the flywheel off for some reason always use new flywheel bolts when you put the flywheel back on.

If the compression numbers are ok and put in the plugs and start the engine and let it idle and run. If the engine sounds ok and absent any real signs of engine issues: oil leaks, cracks, misfires, coolant intermix with oil or oil intermix with coolant; I guess you have a new transmission installed and go from there.

How did the transmission come to end up like that?

Thank you very much for spending the time. Valuable information indeed.
The first sign of the gear broblem was when i engage Revers, the car was shaking and does not go more that the speed of walking.
i gave the car to the mechanic to try it. He went somewhere and brough it back in pieces.
he suspected that the crank shaft have damaged the gearbox because it rattles.

Man that is some serious damage there. So we know the gear box is toast, but you need to ask the mechanic exactly what kind of failure he suspects the engine had, then go from there. If you are in KSA i'm sure you can find good mechanics near you, or even in UAE which isn't that far...at least your not in Egypt where you have a better chance of getting struck by lightting than finding a reliable Porsche mechanic

But Why does he suspect that? What tests has he done to lead to that conclusion? A cracked cylinder would leak, oil, water or at the very least air.
A compression test will yield the truth.

As far as the crank goes, first try and turn it by hand. It could still be messed up and only a tear down will rule out damage for sure but if the mechanic is just guessing, you're about to spend some money on potentially a guess.

I would do a DME download and look for over revs.....I'm kinda wondering if the "tech" wound it up to red line and dumped the clutch.

That is a massive failure judging by the pictures....
