How much to pay for a C2 with engine knock?
Hey fellow sixers,
My friend recently developed an engine knock on his 07 911 C2. He took it to the shop and they said that the engine has to be rebuilt. Cost of the rebuild- $18-20kcan.
I saw the car and sure enough it's a engine knock. It is also blowing out black smoke from the exhaust.
Right now he's on the fence about repairing it or just cutting his losses and selling the car as is to someone. I'm no mechanic but it might be a good project to take on.
He said if I want it he would sell it to me for $24,000Can. Not sure if that's a good price.
What would you guys pay? or think is a fair value knowing that the engine will have to be rebuilt or replaced with a used one?
Thanks.

A recent engine rebuilt in Toronto that I know about cost a lot more than C$20K (think almost double) so depending on the options and the shape of the car is in, I am thinking C$10-12K sounds about right
An '07 C2 depending on mileage, options, etc is about a $30-$35k US if a manual and about $5k less if a tip. Figure $22k for a rebuilt slightly upgraded motor and price to buy it as is would be $8-$12k US. It likely has a scored bore or worse causing the smoke.
Wow, i guess him wanting $25kCan is way too much.
I guess a rebuilt engine at 20k would pretty much be the same as buying one used at $40k here in Canada
I dont think he will sell the car for that price you guys recommended.
Car is manual, no options. Stock except for 19" lobster rims
