997.2 USB Music - No Valid Music File Detected

I formatted my USB thumb drive. Its a Fat 32 drive. I dragged a bunch of .mp3s onto it, plugged it into the USB port in the car and it says that it recognized the usb but gives me some error, not sure exact words, but essentially it says something like "No Valid Music Files Detected"

Anyone successfully play music from their usb? or have had this error before? Thanks!

I noticed that some compression (or encoder) of mp3 is not compatible and it would just skip. For example, the mp3 music bought from Amazon, I had to reconvert the mp3 again (same bit rate) and then it would work.

also, if you search google for 'usb stick and pcm3' (different forum) there is a thread that mentions the limitations of file structures and etc.

Check the size of your thumb drive. If it is too large it won't be read.

I had the same issue with mine. Would constantly skip over songs or wouldn't play them at all. Fortunately for me my factory amp went out and I used that to solve Music skipping issues/USB would read and other times it wouldn't and a bad factory amp. All to justify $1800+ aftermarket amp/head unit replacement. But was well worth it to me, only because I enjoy listening to music.
