why spend extra money for a Bose system when the sound of the exhaust is a better 'music' system.

Why this is not standard on a car of this expense is crazy, but... I KNOW it is a cheap option, but I just want to hear from those who DON'T have this option how annoying (or not) it is.
It's the principle of the matter to me
Paul you are like me less is better...dont get them really no need...

if you already have the sports seats, and sport chrono, and you also get the sport shifter, you may as well get the porsche sport exhaust. i didn't custom order my options, i just happened to buy a car that was already made and had all the options, and if i did custom order it, i would probably not have bought the pse, thinking it was frivolous.

but now that i have the pse(b/c it came that way), i find that i enjoy that option the most. especaially the fact that i can turn it on and off with the sport buttom.

i agree with you that porsche should throw in a few things for an almost six figured car(i.e. self dimming mirrors, homelink, heated seats, to name a few).

but i do feel that if you get sport chrono, you almost owe it to yourself to get pse b/c it completes the "transformation" of the sport mode. i can't even imagine my car now w/o the pse. it would just seem like the transformation is incomplete.

just my two cents.

No offense but there is no way in hell you can get a system installed that will blow away the Bose system for under $1000. No way. How would you install the subwoofers that are imbedded with the Bose system currentley. Not to mention the top quality speakers in the door with absolutely no rattling. Installation alone would cost a ton more than $1000. Plus, you would never get a system to sound as good. Plus, I have no idea what an exhaust has to do with music

oh yeah, and my self dimming mirrors seem too dark also. it's really not that ideal for all situations, b/c most of the time when cars are farther away, i find the mirror too dark, and then when they are right behind me, esp an SUV, it's still too bright. it's not a perfect solution. take it or leave it. i don't think it's a big deal either way, whether you have it or not, b/c it's not like it works that well anyway.

Self-dimming is a no no in my IMO. It makes everything dark behind you at all times; all for the once in a while when an SUV is hounding.
Funny all my P-Cars had Bose and in the M3 the only options I did are HK and Xenons...I liek music and the Bose is not great but far from bad and much better then the stock..funny my cousin is buying a 997 cab and called me today she found the perfect car and it has no Bose but all her other wants/needs so I told her to take it...this is her 3rd p-car/cab...she raised 2 kids with 996's cabs so much for a need for an SUV huh!

I agree...to get sound better than BOSE is easy....but $1000 is not going to do it. Count on 3-5K to do it. This should cover parts and labor. Then count on making a couple of trips back for various rattles hums pops etc.
And of course, the dealer will blame any electrical problem on your aftermarket stereo so be ready to battle for warranty work if it involves the electrical system.

I'd do it for that reason alone.

Great, great points guys, thank you. From my pov, tint doesn't help with truck HID's behind you, the PSE sounds great but I won't do it unless proven to have more power, BOSE is awesome but not important to me, and I find the stock shifter just fine, much better than before.
Interesting post about the power source for V1, nice work 1080. However the old fashioned power supply works fine for me.
waxedone and Judge, thanks for the 'too dark' comments that's what I am concerned about. 2thfixer, if I was getting a cab there's no question I would get this option, maybe that's why it seems lighter to you.
Obsession over, thank you 6speeders!

haha... I hear ya on the installation costs... especially for a P-car but I guarantee you that my $1000 (self-installed) sound system will blow any bose out of the water. I'm not going to go on bragging and listing what I have but if you don't believe me, pm me and i'll get you a list of my components which include all aftermarket speakers, amps, and a sub. And if you still don't believe me maybe we can meet up... i'd be glad to give you a listen... but to be fair, you must give me a ride :P

Dimming Mirrors
They are great! and operate in a very seamless manner.
A touch of a button turns them off if desired.
Both side mirrors dim as well.
For me a must have !!
