winter tires for Carrera GTS on 18x12 rear wheels?
I've been thinking of getting a set of used centerlock wheels for use with winter tires. While it doesn't snow where I live, winter temps do get down into the low 30 to mid 20 F temps. The max performance summer tires are hard as a rock in that weather.
Issue though is every set of wheels I've seen for sale in the 18" size are 18x12 on the rears. And the widest 18" tires I can find to fit are 295/35 x 18 Continental Extreme Contact DWS 06. Their website lists 11" as the max width for a rear rim.
AFAIK no one makes a winter or all season tire that will fit an 18x12 rim in the right size.
I really would prefer to not spend big $$$ for a new set of wheels.

The reason you can't find wider winter tires is because most people who use winter tires drive through snow and the wider the tire, the more it tends to float on the snow.
Your best bet might be to find a good all season tire, like a Conti DWS (stands for Dry Wet Snow) or to get some used OEM wheels and have a winter setup.

The 18" Conti DWS specs a max rim width of 11". I guess the alternative is to find some used OEM centerlocks and throw on some winter tires. But the OEM wheels are a PITA to clean in the winter. Ugggggh.
