Upgrading Speakers - 2009 997

After almost 10 years of flawless ownership, and admittedly only 42K miles on it during that time, I finally have something to replace on my 2009 997 Carrera. Since my job has moved a bit farther away, I can now use the Porsche as a commuter car since it will finally get warmed up enough to make it worth driving...prior commute was just a couple of miles.

The left front large door speaker sounds like it is broken, either a torn cone or detached magnet, sound has dropped off and it's unclear and boomy now..

Since it's a fair amount of hours and care to open up these door panels, I've now thought it would be nice to upgrade the rather meager speakers with some better aftermarket ones...leaving the head unit the same...just looking to swap out both the small and large door speakers.

Has anyone done this...got any recommendations on high quality speakers which are plug and play (same size, better sound) without doing any physical or electronic modifications?

Thanks in advance all!

There's a whole thread in here on doing exactly that with Focal speakers.

Attached is the write up I did when doing mine.

Thanks Petza...that's an impressive project...kudos for the patience and time and skill to go thru that.

Ok...learned a lot by reading the above install...decided to rip out the entire original system and replace the head unit with a top of the line Kenwood, replace the 4 door speakers with high end Focals, the rear panels as well with Focals, disconnect the dash tweeters, and add one 8 inch subwoofer in a box on the rear deck, along with Dynamat all the way around. Parts have been ordered, should be here in a week...can't wait for the guys to do the replacement and listen to it...should be absolutely night and day difference.

Aside from the left front mid range speaker on the driver's door, all the rest of the speakers and the head unit are in perfect shape, so I'm going to sell those. If anyone needs one or more OEM parts, do let me know.

Thanks Petza for the write up again...turned me onto the right path forward here.
