Notchy Second Gear

Hello. I am a new member. I own a 2006 997.1 with 31000 miles a few months ago. I know the topic has been beaten to death but I wanted any recent opinions. Going into Second Gear it feel notchy on the up shift. Not the down. I can put it into second gear with two fingers however it feels like a two step process going in. I notice it’s more notchy when cold. No grinding. I am having the fluid changed to motul and putting an OEM short shifter in. I love my car but the second gear thing bothers me. Clutch is all good too. Any new responses would be appreciated. Thanks,
Rob

1st and 2md gear synchros are a different material than the rest of the gears to hold up longer. They all have this notchiness when cold that goes away when hot. I'd change your manual gearbox fluid with fresh Mobillube PTX - don't use any other fluid as this is the best one even if you've had good luck with something else in a different car. That may improve it a bit.

Fixed!

Hello Petza. Had the fluid changed and I also got a short shifter. My car drives and switches gears beautifully. Just wanted to pass this on

Definitely recommend sticking with PTX. 2nd gear uses steel synchro and is super notchy when cold. I had some luck by swapping out with PTX, but the real solution is waiting for the gearbox to be fully warmed up before pushing it hard.

So I upgraded from a 2006 to a 2010 Carrera S with 19 thousand and change miles. I am the second owner. Doing research I found the original owners phone number on a Porsche Bill that they forgot to blacken out. I am having the same problem with second gear as I did with my 2006. When not warmed up it grinds a bit and is choppy going into second gear. I called the original owner in Florida and she said she never had a problem. The car only gained a few extra miles when brought to NY. I figure this must be just the way these 997s act at low rpm when not warmed up. Any thoughts?

My car is also slightly notchy going into second when cold (as @Petza914 mentioned).
Always been that way, and it goes away once the gearbox is warmed up.
I hear double-clutching may help, but personally I never bothered to train myself and make this a habit.

Does this have anything to do with the factory option short shift kit?
