997 RUF KOMPRESSOR - need help

hi,

I believe I am at the right place to get some help from the community and especially the current and past owners of a 911 RUF KOMPRESSOR or more largely the supercharger crew;

I have my kompressor belt that got loose or cracked and finally get badly damaged while I was on a drive.

While the car is now at garage in order to replace the belt and some other stuff,

the mecanic raised a question regarding the supercharged unit (brand ASA) (model TURBOMEX I guess but I am not sure)

The compressor pulley requires a certain amount of force to turn. There is no blocking point but it feels like there is some resistance . In any case, it does not turn freely. It is normal to your opinion?

thank you for your help on this, I want my car back on roads to enjoy Spring season

The inner should turn freely. The outer should have resistance. That assembly you show is a centrifugal clutch which prevents parasitic drag when you don't need boost.

I keep up with where the few of these cars are. Where are you located and what does yours look like? How long have you had it?

Thank you so much Petza, it's perfect and I'll go to the garage to test it.

I've been through all of your posts as you shared a lot of useful information.

I made my own research and I've only found so far 25 units of 997 RUF KOMPRESSOR. I've been digging the web for any report on forums, social media and past or current sales ads. It is probably not completed but it is a work in progress.

Mine is a 2006 black cabriolet with tan interior. It has been converted by Ruf in 2006 directly after getting out of factory and the the car has been sent to Greece where was the located the first owner. Then the car spent some time in Germany until I bought it last October. I am in France and might be the only owner in the country.

Fantastic. I think there are only 3 or 4 in the US where I am from the best I can tell.

I've had this whole kit apart doing service work so let me know if they have additional questions. It's certainly 10 pounds of gold in a 5 pound box.

Petza,

Can I ask you if by any chance you know the references of belt tensioner pulleys for the supercharger belt?

There are 3 of them and I would like to take the opportunity that this piece is removed to change all of them

I've asked RUF about it last week, if they sell them. Haven't received the answer yet.

The tensioner and metal pulley are special items I think you can only get from them. The plastic pulleys are normal 997 versions. One of them cross references to a BMW pulley if you pull the number directly off the pulley.

OK great news, except for the metal pulley for which I'll have to wait RUF's answer. I hope they have it in stock

I think there's a black one in Canada with a Martini livery, a black one in GA, and a white cab, maybe with a blue interior. It was listed at Sloan cars a decade or so ago. There was another silver one like mine at a dealer in Miami but that car is now in Chile.

yes I got the white / blue one in the US, I've also listed in the US a red coupé but I am missing the black one in Georgia. It could be another addition to the list then.

In Canada I've found a light blue / black leather cab and also a very unique 997.2 coupé.

Petza,

Can I ask you if you know the reference of the blower? I believe it is a Turbomex but not sure if it is a Turbomex-12 or other. If I could know I could maybe source some specific information about it.

Also, what kind of engine oil do you use? I've read ASA supercharger are lubricated by the engine oil thanks to a by-pass and I believe 10W60 is the right type for it.

It's a ASA unit built specifically for RUF. You can contact ASA in Europe for parts. I had my spare one rebuilt by them. Try Chantal Stober using chas@asagroup.de.

I use Driven FR50 5w50

The supercharger does use the engine oil for lubrication. There is a banjo fitting on the top side where the oil enters and a drain fitting on the bottom side. Getting that drain hose back on when reinstalling the supercharger is a nightmare.

Oil enters here

And exits here

Hi Petza,

I wanted to use 10W60 but I will rely on your experience and use 5W50 instead.

I went to the garage yesterday where the car is in order to test the supercharger the way you showed on the video and it is good. It works the same way so I don't plan to send it to ASA.

Regarding the tensioner and metal pulley it is indeed specific part and I got a quotation from RUF. I need to send the old piece to them in Pfaffenhausen and they will return me a brand new one. It is great they have it in stock.

I just need to buy the plastic pulley next to the metallic one. This one is not provided by RUF as per their quote.

Keep you posted when the car is back on roads. Great to have you around for advice.

I need to buy that same metal pulley assembly as mine failed and then melted the plastic pulley next to it. I used the one from my spare R-Kompressor kti but am now left without a spare. It was a much higher price than I expected so was planning to see if I couldn't match it up to something and build a new one myself.

What is the mileage of your car? Mine is 68k miles.

I will be interested in your plan, if it has to be changed on a regular basis, assuming there won't be stock at some point, it is interesting to have a back up plan.

Since I am in Europe, if you need some specific spare parts and I can help you to get a fair price, let me know, I'll be happy to help.

Currently about 63k miles. PM me what they quoted you for that pulley and tensioner assembly as maybe I can have you buy me one and ship it here quite a bit cheaper. Appreciate the offer to help.
