997 vs 997s
These forums are too funny. Porsche definitely attracts all the insecure ego drivers who wouldn't know how to translate the paper performance numbers into real performance on the track. VW must have browsed these posts when looking for inspiration for the new Passat commercials!
New 997 this week
Swapped out my 1996 993C2 (polar silver/black, 18" Techart Formulas, S03s, Big Reds, TT sway bars, RS clutch, RSR muffler) for a 2006 997 C2 basalt black/2-tone black and sand beige all leather, PCM, Bose, Tiptronic, 19" Speed wheels, heated seats, and so on, $88k list. No comparison between 993 and 997, IMHO. Got the Tip so the wife could drive home once in a while...
Other vehicles:
2002 BMW 530 Sport sterling/black leather - best car I ever owned until the Porsche!
2005 GMC Yukon Denali black/gray - tough truck!

I drove the C4S and C2S before making my decision.. IMO, the C4S felt heavier and I felt the C2S was much more nimble. But to each his own, I am sure that there are people that preferred the drive of the C4S. I went with the C2S over the C2 because the list of extra option justified the price difference (xenon, pasm, brakes, etc).
That said .. I still feel that the car is lacking in power a bit. Going to do some simple mods(headers, intake, chip and exhaust) and see if that can fill the void.

the S def. is a sweeter car by any means.
but if money is limited (like for me it is), the S is not a bad deal.
the price diff. is about 10k, if you can get a better discount on the regular c2 and that number could be close to 15-16k, and for that much money - i think i would get the c2 and take some skilled driving course to become a better driver. that's jsut me. but the S badge along with bigger engine, with red brakes are sweet to look at if you got the ca$h.
