Surprised to hear that. I have installed a few since September and have not had any problem getting the kits with the correct optic cables. There are quite a few different cables due to different options. C4,C2, C/D, external amp, Nav, phone. All were available when I ordered them at the time.
.
dealr quoted me for about $3500 installed. I know it's 4 hours labbor
im currently doing the PCM and navigation module on my GT3. everything is running smooth except for the MOST plugs. perhaps you guys can help. most people may not know this.. but there is a MOST (fiber optic cable) already in the car. it goes from the head unit (CDR24 or PCM) to the bonnet near the brake booster. theres a cap on the end, but its ready to use. even if you dont have any of the MOST items such as CD changer, Navigation or BOSE amp.. the MOST cable is there.
okay.. so here's the problem. i have an amp in my car.. which i thought was the BOSE amp. its the factory amp which drives the 9 BOSE speakers. but upon close inspection, there is no MOST connection. how do i hook up the 3 ended MOST cable? one end goes to the MOST connection near the brake booster (goes to the PCM). the 2nd end goes to the navigation module (nav DVD player). but.. i thought the 3rd end should plug into the BOSE amp.. but wheres the hole?
perhaps my GT3 does not have a BOSE amp? does the BOSE amp suppose to use a MOST connector?

There is no Bose amp in the 997 GT3. The amp in that system does not use MOST. The rest of the parts Like Navigation/CDC will be MOST if the car is equipped with those options. If none of those options exist then there will still be a MOST Gateway connector behind the brake booster but it usually will have an open connection. If you try to add anything on the MOST ring to a car that just has a PCM only you will have to either loop that connector or connect it to the Gateway or other device in the front trunk.
thanks eric. yup, i have something called the ASK system instead of BOSE. but on my build sheet, it clearly says Sound Package Plus (Analog Sound-System with CD storage in glove compartment. Includes 9 loudspeakers and 235 watt output)
on 997's other then the GT3 you get something else called Bose High End Sound Package (Digital surround sound, 14 speakers, 7 channel amplifier with 325 watts, and automatic adjustment of tone and volume to compensate for ambient noise.
so.. i guess my PCM wont be running on the digital amp with MOST connectors
hopefully porsche can reconfigure my PCM to work with ASK. let me ask them

well im currently shopping around for a 997 and theyre fitted with PCM screens however some that i like dont have navigation, so i wanted to know if its as simple as just getting the dvd unit, or what else/cost is involved
but even if the touchscreen PCM did fit and was compatiable, im sure it would cost like $4k or more from the stealer.
on a side note, Porsche is having a hard time trying to configure my PCM, navigation module to my ASK amps... dam..
