Flat-6

[quote=jlingk]I remember reading some blurbs that the 2010 model year car would be the last flat 6 model Carrera, the reason for this being that it will be a 4.0 litre which, according to the engineers, is the physical limit of that design.quote]

It maybe the last of this (M96) version of the flat-6 but that doesn't mean it's the end of the flat-6 per se.

You can add FSI, you can add lighter (titanium?) internals, you can add lower pressure vva turbo that just boosts torque. You can, with new architecture take the flat-6 out to 4.5L or 5.0L. You can get a lot more power and torque out of an engine (think 100bhp/liter as a start) if you play the technology right, and that's before "full on" turbo-charging. It won't be M96 but it can still be a flat-6, and it quite likely would be much better.

I'm not worried about it. I saw a 993 yesterday that looked like it rolled off the showroom floor - 10 years old and still pristine. Growing up in SoCal, I saw plenty of 356s and '60s 911s that still looked amazing. That is part of my dream of 911 ownership. This car will be beautiful for years to come.

If I ever get bored/annoyed by updates, I can always get Ruf Rt12 kit and the supercharger or just get the Porsche body/engine updates done.

This car will be in my garage in 20-30 years...
