Changes to the 997 and 997s

OK, you know how porsche likes to improve their cars about 2 or 3 years into the model. (Like the changes that happened to the 996 in 02) Will they do this again and if so what?

I am thinking, engine wise, the base car jumps to 350hp or so and the S goes to 380(like the 996 GT3)

if they do that ill be pissed..i do think they screwed up by giving the base 325 (only 30 more than the lighter cayman) and 355 for the S...both are probably 30 or so less than what they should have done..but dont change it now!!!

Like I said, they did with the 996, but hey maybe I am wrong. I am sure in 1999, when the first time buyers lined up to buy the redesigned 911, all were excited. How did they feel in 2002, three years later when the car was improved. I mean, when I look at an older 996, I like the car but I perfer the updated design. I would bet they knew the upgraes to the 997 when they rolled it out in 05. This is how they stay on top of the car business.

Nobody has an opinion, or are the current 997 owners too shy to comment.

I really want to upgrade, but the 07 are due out in 2 monthes. About a year from now the 08 will be out and I would be surprised if NO changes were made.

I could(wish) the changes would be 3.6 to 3.8 and 3.8 to 4.0. And a front end not unlike the GT3....which is so nice.

The best times to buy are when things are released. If you bought in 2005, you kept your car for 3 years and get a 2008 model. It just sucks for people buying 07's. Live for today though, no point waiting.

I think 08 and 09 will be bug fixes in the software and little else.

I may be wrong but I don't think any major changes are planned for the Carrera until the 2010 model year (09 release). I remember reading some blurbs that the 2010 model year car would be the last flat 6 model Carrera, the reason for this being that it will be a 4.0 litre which, according to the engineers, is the physical limit of that design.

I agree with Hussain though, there is no point trying to predict the future. If you need to upgrade, just a get a lease now.

I do however think the 997 is a superior car to the 996. Jus my opinion though.

I never followed porsche until I got my car. Did they always keep the same body style the whole model design and only change when they went 990 to 993 to 996 and the 996 was the only one that they made major upgrades halfway through its lifespan? Or do they always make changes part way through?

BTW the 997 is superior.

neil,
just a matter of time. i guess u haven't seen those. here're some possible facelift 997 pics. reflecting the 996 era now it's about time we see them after the introduction of the Turbo. power increase is for sure. stay tuned.

notice the new headlight. that's the biggest give away that's the new model. then the rear lights, both bumpers.

So like the 996 did in 02, the newer 997 takes on the "look" of the 997 TT. I still like the gt3 bumper better. These also look like widebody cars. What about the engine and suspension?

Too soon, IMO! The 997 is only 1 and a half years old.

hummm that might be a possibility but unlikely to happen since it might cost them too much money.

or there's a 45 degree angle light like the Cayenne when u turn the steering wheel it lights up the corner lol. poor man version of adoptive lights.
