Exclamation Question regarding installation of the PSE.Please help

Guys,I have read the previous posts regarding the PSE and mine is a different one.I own a 997 Carrera and live in India. The dealership here is quite crappy and I own 1 of the only 2 997 C2 models in India!Erm my question is that I was getting the PSE installed and the Porsche guys here forgot to get the new "switch panel" or "console" required which has the additional button for turning the PSE on and Off...Now I read the previous posts and i understand that the switch is optional and that we can keep the PSE on on permanent basis as such.

Now get this, the sales manager here says that I must get the switch panel installed because the switch " is imp for opening the flaps of the exhausts and if I keep the flaps open permanently they would eventually damage my engine and also I would feel the lack of power frm the engine as it overloads the engine"..Now I couldnt make sense outta this and he repeatedly tried to explain it but to no avail.Erm could you guys make any sense outta this.I mean what flaps? If anyone knows what they are talking about then please explain this to me and would this harm my car in anyways if I keep the so called flaps open permanently?

i dont think it hurts anything to keep the exhaust in loud mode permanently. ive spoken with 2 local dealers and they have no prob installing the PSE without the electronics. post this question on rennlist.com. you will get more answers than here.

No problem keeping PSE on all the time .
It definitely will not do any kind of damage to the engine or otherwise.

Do you think Porsche would let you turn it on every time you drive the car if it did ?

The only reason for the dampers in the bypass pipes is to conform to noise laws in certain countries .
I would howerver definitely reomment installing the switch. It's very nice to have it quiet occasionally .
I mean , in India , how much could yor dealer possibly charge for an extra 2-3 hrs. labor? The switch and controls are only about $ 50
I am having mine installed next week (Total labor cost for the entire install including controls is $ 400 )

Have fun . I listened to one and it sounds great .

Ok the current update is that the service guys have installed the PSE..YAY!But they have connected it with the Sports button...So if I remove the solenoid wire attached near the engine would, that would keep the PSE on permanently but will that in any ways affect the working of the Sports mode?

If you disconnect the wire to the solenoid, your PSE will always be in the loud mode .

Disconnecting the wire will NOT affect your Sports mode operation in any other way.

I am in NYC and would like to get the switch installed as well, a few of the dealerships in my area are asking 5 hours!! for the work.

Where did you get your work done and are you happy with it? TKS!

Just add a 12 volt line with an off/on switch to the solenoid and you have an easy setup that's controlled by YOU, not the DME! I did it, I love it!!

Here is switch I used! I had my dealer wire from Fuse box to switch to solenoid when I had PSE installed. Used the original harness to solenoid, with this Mod.

You need:
Mufflers and associated hoses!
Electrical harness, solenoid, mounting bracket( A kit, I believe)
Join renntech and get the Tech. service bulletin on PSE install, it shows the entire package.
Then you can install my way, with harness connected to a 12 volt switch to turn PSE off/on at will, not through ther DME and sport button!
Check on the forum to see if anyone has the electrics kit or try Sunset imports for a price that may be O.K.
You need the solenoid and the hoses to the exhaust for it to work on/off.
Otherwise just leave on all the time!!!!
regards, Larry

PSE is the "Porsche Sport Exhaust" system. Sounds great, can be turned off/on. Weighs more and provides no increase in power!
In essence it just sounds great!!!!!!!!!!!! and you can quiet it down, when necessary!!!
