Talking New Member 06 997s

Hey guys I finally was able to have my account activated. I am new to the P club and just bought my 997s about 4 weeks ago. For now it's bone stock. Still well under the break in period. I'm thinking about Tubi mufflers (by the way how much hp do these realy add - they are only mufflers, also I heard they sound the best) and the Evo Air Intake. Just for starters. I would like to lower with H&R's. I had them on my M3 but I am skeptical on my 997. The dealer told me it would make the car ride pretty bumpy and maybe decrease handling. But it looks great -- just a tad lowered. Here are a few pics so you guys can see. I do not want to go crazy with mods, so any ideas that are not outrageous in terms of cost are well appreciated.

This is me under 4,200 rpm
This is me over 4,200 rpm

I only took it up there a couple times. I had to try it out. I'll keep it under 4,200 and stick to the guidlines. I spoke with several people and P mechanics who said occastionally it won't hurt a thing.

Welcome - I am relatively new as well (still at 1900 miles). I am looking at the Tubi exhaust as well... there is a thread I started in this section about it.

Nice ride!

What do you guys think about the cargraphic front lip like Mexico Blue's but painted black, you can order them ready to paint, and of course H&R,s?

It would probably look odd not lowered right?

Scoop. Great car. I can't tell if that's gloss black or basalt black metallic. If it's the latter, then your car seems to be exactly as mine started out to be. Yes, it would definitely pay to lower it, looks wise. You can look at my thread, New Member, Full Mod something or other to see all the pics so you can see what your car would look like with certain other mods. I even have the black wheels like you have (now also have Avus 20s) which I am putting racing tires on for track days. Rock on, brother. Also, the carbon looks incredible on the basalt black metallic. I have a carbon lip, mirrors, and wing uprights. Might want to check that out. Gets all the props from people around and it's what really makes me tingle when I walk up to it. I'm going to put the stock rear deck lid without the wing on it next week just to mix it up a bit. I've scored the mounts on them both so I can swap easily for different looks. I just wonder how it would look like that.

Chris - since you're still evaluating exhausts have you (or anyone else for that matter) looked at B&B. I've had B&B on my Vette and liked them - you can't beat the quality of the construction. Based on their website, it looks like they've been making exhaust sytems for Porsche for a long time. They're touting a new technology that is supposed to eliminate or reduce the drone. Can anyone offer some comments? Thanks.

For me it's pretty much a done deal w/the Tubi. I MUST keep my extended warranty intact with no issues, so the fact that the dealer will install it and keep the warranty is #1. Additionally, people all over the site have told me how good the sound and quality are.

I've heard of issues with B&B exhausts on Z06s. Some guys claimed cracks, etc. and then a hell of a time getting them fixed/replaced by B&B. Of course you hear that stuff with any mfg, so I take it with a grain of salt.

Chris from Cali -- What dealer did you buy your Tubi at? I'm in Cali as well -- San Diego but was thinking about getting at Sharkwerks. Vey easy to bolt on. What price did the dealer quote you just for parts?

Actually, I am in VA right now - my house is in San Diego, but I am working out here for the time being. It was a local dealer here in VA. When I bought my Audi and was shopping Porsches in San Diego, I went by Hoehn in Carlsbad and they were very good. I'd recommend them highly.

The price quote was ~$2400 installed. I think it was $1900 or so for the parts.
