it's right behind the oil drain plug/pan. you can't miss it.

 

Deputydog,I found a picture of the underside.
The discolored part towarts the bottom of the picture is obviously the oil pan, which is a no-no.
Maybe you can point out where behind it , it would be OK to lift.

it's kind of weird for me looking at it from this angle, but the red circle indicates where i would jack it on my 3.6 liter. that is of course if the 3.8 has a similar layout as the 3.6...

 

here's a shot of my car for comparison.... it's that solid piece behind the oil pan.

 

Dog - did you say a tech at the dealer said it was ok to jack from that location ? Seems odd considering how far back it is on the motor...

I wonder if a 2x4 placed under the oil pan that was as wide as the pan itself to distribute the weight evenly would be ok ? I used to use this method on my 993 in the front on the tub/trunk...But I dunno if it'd be a good idea on an oil pan.

again, you're not looking to keep it up there on that point. just long enough to slip your rear stands in. it appears very solid. i have used this point several times with no problems (knock on wood )

not sure it would really matter how far forward or back on the motor it is. as long as it is a structurally sound point is all that matters. i would not try anything with the oil pan.

 

Why dont u want to use ramps again? that would structurally be the best way.

 

The oil pan is just a thin piece of cast aluminum.

What are your objections of putting the rear wheels on ramps?
They are a lot more stable than any jack stand and for $25 a pair,
why risk damaging the engine ?

 

No, I agree, ramps are the best idea. Now I'm thinkin' about a lift

 

just use the jackpoint i recommended. ask a tech at your dealership if it will make you feel better. it works fine. ramps are a pain and i don't like using them. not to mention if your car is lowered you may have issues even getting up them.

 

Thanks Dog - It's at the dealer now for a few minor warranty issues. When I pick it up this afternoon I'll make sure to ask the tech about that jack point. Thanks for the info and I do also agree that ramps are a PITA.

nicely put. i love it when people don't sign their names but are quick to call someone else a name. anyway.....

so could someone explain why it will cost thousands by jacking there? i'm not looking for an argument, but the porsche dealer service department said it was okay and suggested it to me. if this is a bad spot, then i should let the dealer know they are giving out bad info.

i however have used this point on several occasions with no problems at all (knock on wood).

so, whoever this was, could you please explain what kind of damage i will incur by jacking at that point?
