Exhaust?????

I know this has been discussed many times but I am debating on a exhaust system.

I am looking at the

awe
fabspeed
tubi

I currently run PSE and love the note with the sport button on. It sounds mean and loud.

Does any of the exhaust mentioned have a similar note. thanks

I am looking at the same systems.. So far fabspeed is coming out on top from all the people ive talked to ( shops & owners )

Would you be willing to sell the PSE system?
I like the whole switching system

I jsut put an exhaust system on my 996. I went with gemballa, sounds exactly like the tubi posted for the 997. take a look at that. other than that I like tubi a alot too. exhausts are very subjective so listen to as many as you can to get an idea of which u like the best. fabspeed is going to be pretty loud from what ive heard and will give you a small gain. go on sound because thats the best you get out of them.

I have the Fabspeed and lke it alot. The 3 you mentioned are all very good products. The AWE will be the quiet muffler with the Tubi and Fab are louder. The Tubi cost $2400 and the AWE and Fab are both around $1100. The Fab and AWE are made in the USA and the Tubi is Italian ( might explain why it cost so dang much).

this is the first documented occurence of someone ditching the PSE for an aftermarket system!

Im thinkin about diching the PSE also... dont get me wrong i love it, jsut isnt loud enough for me though..leaning toward the obnoxiously loud fabspeed muffler bypass pipes.

I have the full AWE system along with an EVO intake and GIAC flash and the sound, craftmanship and performance is amazing. I was able to get a nice increase in power across the entire powerband. I am very satisfied with my AWE setup.

I like Synergy's car for that exact same reason. The Tubi is a nice system too.. it's expensive and a good bit louder. Both are good.

I have fab speed, air intake, headers and mufflers (997S Cab). The idle sound is awesome (good burbling noise). The initial accelerating into 1st gear is awesome. Everyone looks to see where its coming from. After that the sound is good. Tinny at times. I wish it was it had a more deeper sound through the other gears. At highway cruising its a little loud, but I like it like that. May be too loud for some, but hey its a sports car! You want quiet, buy a Mercedes! I also have an older Ferrari. 1989 328 GTS. Stock exhaust. What I wanted to do is to duplicate that sound for the Porsche. Its a very deep sound. An amazing sound. Not anything like a a F430, but good enough. What I've been told is that a Porsche will not sound like a Ferrari no matter what you do (8 cyl Vs 6cyl.). I felt the quality of the Fab speed was as good as it gets. Much better then stock. The sound is night and day. The stock is way to quiet. Not sports car like (boring quiet). And what I'm told I'm pushing another 40 HP. Even if the HP is not true, I would still take the sound over the stock. As far as tubi goes, they always made the best after market exhaust for the ferrari. Until recently I never knew that they did exhausts for Porsche. Its worth hearing in person to determine which one you like. You won't be dissappointed with the Fab.

GaryRes, 1st I see this is your 1st post...WELCOME! I have only been on here for a few months but really enjoy this site. If you think about why an engine sounds the way it sounds it will be impossible for the Porsche to replicate your Ferrari. I agree to Ferrari's are the best sounding cars..period. The Porsche and Ferrari engines are so different the base sound is so different that no exhaust will make them sound the same.
I too have the Fabspeed mufflers and really like them, especially at idle and full throttle from 5k-7k they just scream. I also have a 997s Cab and only find a little resonance/done in the sound at around 1900-2100 rpm but with the top done there is no drone. It's sad that Porsche has to make the cars sound so quiet though.

I have Gemballa, and it sounds exactly like the tubi on the 997, but my car is a 996. the exhaust cans look similar in shape and stuff so maybe they are made by the same distibuter because thats the only way they would sound very very similar.

Just installed my AWE full exhaust today. Sounded great. Not too loud until at 3/4 throttle and it is screaming! Also tried it in a tunnel....exhilirating...got some kind of performance gain by buttmeter....very livable system. Craftsmanship is great. No resonance what so ever. My last 996 has PSE. Sounded tinny at times. But this AWE...incredible. My friend has a Murcielago with Tubi, no good. When he starts the engines, the whole neighborhood wakes up.

Question for manufacturers. Is it needed to disconnect the battery for a few minutes and reconnect after installation of exhaust system? So the ECU can adapt to the new operating environment? Or is there some other way to reset ECU and get it to learn all over again?

By the way, my car is the same color as yours. I got rid of a 645 because I thought BMW made the exhaust to muted for my taste, besides other reasons that I didn't like the car. Anyone want to know why I got rid of it? I'll give you my opinion of how the 645 matches up to the 997S. I wasn't going to modify it because it was "just" a 645. If it was an M, maybe I would of done the exhaust. My wife's daily driver is a Boxster. The exhaust on that car has a very nice sound.
