Some help with bypass pipes please
Hello, I just orderd a pair of Fabspeed muffler bypass pipes for my 06 997S. I was planning on doing the install myself, not to familiar with porsches so i was wondering if anyone can offer any piece of advice, anything will be appreciated... How simple is this install, and what is neccesary to complete it, tools.., etc.. Also how am I supppose to jack up the car, what kind of jacks will I need and from from where am I suppose to do it.
Thanks guys, any input would be very helpfull.
I dont know if the parts will come with any directions or not but if there are any links or anything explaining the install I would appreciate those also.
Thanks..

It should be pretty easy. I just installed my muffler and headers, and my new cats are going in soon once i get the appropriate O2 sensor removal tool. I just put my car up on rhino ramps and that gave me enough room to slide under, but i'm pretty skinny. The total time for me to take apart everything and put everything back together including the headers was 3 hrs. You want to let your car cool down so that if you accidentally touch stuff in there, you wont leave skin on your car. everythings really close together so ull be touching basically everything. I drove my car up on the ramps and left it there overnight, did the install next morning:
Step #1, remove the steel bumper reinforcement rod that is next to your muffler. the rod is attached to the bumper. (1 torx and 1 bolt each)
Step #2, undo the clamps that hold the cats and the muffler, then side the clam over towards the middle so taht you free up the muffler. (2 13mm bolts each)
Step #3, on the interior side of the muffler, there are 3 nuts that hold the mounting bracket (which is attached to the muffler) to the car. you're going to have to snake your hand up in there, so make sure the car is very cold. the bolts are 13mm, a ratchet will work fine. You should be able to reach all 3 bolts from the same side, but it takes some work.
once you get these nuts off, the muffler should come free, and with some work you should be able to pull out the muffler. make sure you prop them up with something like a jackstand so it doesnt fall on your face when u are undoing the mounting bracket nuts.
step #4 line up the bypass tubes, slide the clamp back over from them cats, tighten, and ur done. you can replace the bumper reinforcement rod if you want, but supposedly its not necessary.

Because you have an S, it should work with your stock tips.
If you look at a non-S muffler, the end of the pipe is pinched, and the non-S tip is smaller also, so when I installed my mufflers, the stock tips wouldn't fit. I had to buy S tips so that it would fit my mufflers.
Porsche made the S and the Non-S tips different sizes so Non-S people couldn't go out and buy S tips to make it look like an S.
golfman1 - you dont need a jackstand if you can have someone hold it up for you as you un-bolt the muffler so it doesnt fall on your face.

one more thing: if you throw away your exhaust MAKE SURE YOU KEEP THE MOUNTING BRACKET (and the bolts that come with it)!!!
If you get an aftermarket muffler, you will need this! To remove the mounting bracket from the muffler, you need an open ended 13mm wrench to hold the top bolt and a ratchet to remove the nut from the bottom. 2 Bolts/nuts on each muffler (one long, one short). DO NOT THROW THE WHOLE THING AWAY!

you need enough space to work with so obviously 2 stands at the same time would be better, but you could probably do 1 side at a time.
i am gonna use the ramps since the wheels do not need to come off.
i guess i can use the jackstands to put under the muffler so it wont fall when it is loosened.

rhinoramps will be fine. 28 bucks for the pair and its peace of mind.
also even though you will have the jackstand up there, you should hold the muffler with your other hand when you are loosening the last nut.

thanks everyone for all your input.. I should be getting them sometime middle of next week, ill let you guys know what i think whats i get around to installing them. I have the PSE on right now and even though i love the way it sounds i still need something a little louder..
Do you guys think i should feel some sort of difference, since they do shave 50+ lbs off the car and supposidly add a few hp also.

Does fabspeed deliver the product with a set of instructions.. If not are ther any previous posts with step by step instructions on the removal of the exhaust system preferably with pictures... sorry, I know it may be easier then im making it out to be but I just want to get it right with no hassles, plus I dont usually do the work on my car.
It seems as though I got through the steps mpowered listed but I am still having difficulty getting the muffler free.
I got 3 13mm mounting bolts off but it still feels like the muffler is attached to something, I actually cant get enough play to even pull the bolts out, i just removed the nut.
are there any other special tricks?
thanks guys

Try the www.renntech.com website.
They have a writeup where someone also had a problem getting the bolts out if I recall .
Good luck with the installation.
