getting my steering wheel redone. opinions?

I am gonna get my standard sport wheel redone and was wondering if anyone had some opinions before I went through with this.
It will be thicker than the porsche "thicker wheel" and I am also thinking of contrasting it with perforated leather.
I have included a pic of my wheel and 2 pics of techart and 1 of the fvd (pics stolen from arling, evan and pilot's posts).
Also what do you guys think I should do with the grey speckled ring around the airbag (green arrow), I am leaning towards having that covered with matching leather.

ok, i guess nobody has opinions on this.
But maybe someone has experience with the steering wheel removal.
I was able to pop off the airbag but cant figure out the next step since the inside doesnt look much like the 996 which has plenty of removal instructions online.
Thanks

Just curious as to what the cost of redoing your wheel vs getting a new one? I like the third picture the most because it keeps the original look, just a bit thicker. The last picture on the bottom I don't like. In your case it seems that you will be keeping the round center, simply covering the wheel with thicker pading and leather. I wish you luck and please post pictures once your done. By the way, did you ever consider doing the alcantra look, such as the rinspeed?

cost of getting it done exactly the way I want it is $300 + shipping.
The cost of the techart (which is the way I basically want it) is around $2000. the techart is basically a rewrapped stock wheel.
The cost of the FVD one is around 800 now with the sale and is an excellent deal but I would rather keep the porsche emblem and stock look.

If the work turns out ok I will basically get the same thing that techart sells for a considerably lower price. If not I will sell my wheel and get the fvd.

Raffi--any more info on wheel removal? I'm exactly where you are on this--can't believe we can't get a little R&R protocol for this. V.

somone posted the rest of the instructions on rennlist.
you need a 55 torx, make sure you make marks at a few spots so you get the wheel back on realigned.
when you retighten the bolt the torque is 37 ft lb. Porsche also reccommends you get a new bolt.
It actually looks much easier than the 996 wheel. My wheel is boxed and shipped off. Hopefully my wheel will look good when i get it back.
Leon, I didnt want alcantara since that would be the only alcantara piece (besides the roof) in my car.
