Great post and phtos - you might consider throwing some notes on each photo to create a little DIY. I'm scheduled to have my AWE headers / cats / mufflers put on in a couple of weeks - can't wait! It would be great to hear sound clips or see video of the AWE at idle (cold to warm), normal "neighborhood mode" meaning idle to 2,500 RPM, and then the upper ranges. Mike's Video is great for the high RPM wail, but I'm dying to hear it at "stealth mode". Reports are it's deeper and tame around the block, but sounds AWEsome at high RPMs.

the new AWE system which my dealer ordered today has 200 cell cats instead of 300, is it true that 300 is gone for a 997S?

Yes, that is correct. We are now using an HJS 200 cell cat.

Mike, is there a way to tell what Cats one has? Mine are very recent, but I have no way of knowing which version. Also, can you give us an outline of what the difference is? I believe that originally there were 300 cell and 100 cell racing.

Thanks!

No CEL, and they can be installed yourself with basic handtools.

I don't know if a visual inspection will be able to tell you anything, but I can tell you that you have the 300 cell.

Reason for the switch is that the cat technology improved. We can now offer a lower cell count and still have no CEL. Unfortunately the raw material costs on precious metals and stainless steel have skyrocketed so we had to increase the price.

Thanks Mike - so it sounds like there's really no performance gain for new 200 vs. old 300 cell?

I had AWE headers put on my 997S x51. I do not think there is any noticeable difference in power -- up or down. The exhaust is a little louder (I have PSE).

Question for the AWE folks: Have you placed headers on an x51? What was your result in terms of added hp or torque gain? Is it possible the throttle map now be out of whack by just adding the headers? Any suggestions?

The X51 headers are actually quite good .. a tuner even used it in their exhaust package. The only way to get power from the X51 is to switch out the heavy PSE muffler or add some free flowing cats.

I don't think the throttle map will change from the addition of headers, unless the new ones are more restrictive than the stock one.

I Did Not Change The Stock Headers Since I Do Not Beleive There Is A Noticable Difference In The Hp. Time Will Tell.

Also Please Refer To The Charts On The Awe Site.

There's basically no difference between an X51 header and aftermarket. Porsche in developing the X51 sized the header properly to the 3.8l engine, where our stock 997S have undersized headers. That's why there's a performance boost when you go from stock to either X51 or AWE (or other brand) of header.

Grats Crod, looks nice!

Question for ya, where do you get a good set of blocks ramps, not sure what they are called? I'd rather use those instead of a jack.

Thanks!
