40 to 60 WHP from basic bolt ons and upgraded software? I'd give away my brand new supercharger to whoever gets 40WHP from exhaust, headers, intake and ecu reflash. And I'm not kidding...

Come on guys... who could be so stupid enough to think you can get 40 to 60 whp (meaning 55 to 70 HP to the crank) from some bended tubes without cats, a larger intake and some ecu reflash...

Somebody had too many martinis!

actually vodika... but besides that... AWE dyno shows 28-39crank hp gain on exhaust and header alone... http://www.awe-tuning.com/pages/shar...IL=997Sexhaust
and i'd think the intake and ECU would give at least 15 crank right??? or else i think i'm just blind or low on IQ or something... but ya... you have to face the truth sometimes... not everything you have is the best...

While I do take HP figures with a grain of salt .. I am sure that The 3.6/3.8 engines are capable of more power; Look how much extra power you get from the X51 package.

You figure 3K for airbox, chip, and headers. Maybe a little more with labor. Worth it?
If the x51 was 7K they would sell like hotcakes.

That EVO supercharger looks like a great kit, and reasonably priced too. And then you KNOW you are getting huge HP gains . . .

The SC kit may be the way to go eventually, but I am not ready to give up the warranty yet.

You can't just add the max hp gain from different mods from different company and say the total is such and such. Each mod will have max gain at a specific rpm range. While losing some hp at certain rpm.

The reason factory power kit works better is because all the mods are developed together and make the gains as a whole.

However, to me moding is for fun and making my car unqie. I always measure the success of mods based on how I feel after it. Not by paper dyno charts...

Just my 2cents

Neil,

I think it is reasonable to expect some gains from an improved exhaust and chip. I guess it depends on how much bump you want or expect. I noticed the biggest difference with 100 cell cats. Not necessarily in power, but in visceral, sound and throttle response.

I have a complete Stage 3 kit for the C4S and notice a HUGE difference. My Dyno after the Supercharger put 416 to the wheels. I will be running a new dyno in the next couple of weeks that test the results after I put on headers, 100 cell cats and a Fabspeed muffler. I am expecting/hoping for 22-30 HP difference.

I'll let you know how it turns out. All that said, iuf a Supercharger is beyond reach or you are concerned about warranty issues, I think a chip and intake with 100 cell cats would be my fist set of upgrades. I am sure you will notice a difference.

headers, chip and intake added nothing to my dyno numbers...supercharge or just wait to trade up into turbo? i would do supercharger right now if it didnt void the warranty

Will the 100 cell cats change the sound much? I don't want it much louder.

Deputydog has the SC on his 996. Maybe he could give you a ride. His car is very nice.

I have driven that beast, that is why I am recomending the Evo SC. DD had it installed at a Porsche dealer that is also a Evo distributor and his warranty was not affected. If you can find a dealer like that in your area, it would not hurt to ask around about it.

The 100 cel cats change the sound a little. The benefit of the cats are that there full potential is max airflow at high RPM“s with minimal air flow restriction. Best flow of course are the by-pass pipes. That“s is why it is always best to install a powerkit with headers, sport cats together. The end mufflers as a last option since they are just for sound. You get MAYBE 1 or 2 HP from the end cans alone if the dyno you are using is having a good day . And then of course the mapping is vital to achieve the best results with the header , sport cats combo.
