Discounts vary by location. I would suggest emailing or calling several dealers to see what they will do. There are some 06 cars available that could get good discounts.

I would reccomend the following options: Full Leather, Adaptive seats, auto dimming mirrors, heated seats, Bose, and Sport Chrono as a minimum. Then if you can afford it get the Nav, 6 CD changer, sport exhaust, short shifter and thicker leather steering wheel. If money is no object get the Powerkit or better yet..... the Turbo or GT3/GT2 instead!

i like the sport chrono gadget. makes the car FEEL diferent so its nice to change things up from time to time. bose sounds good.
i would say now is the time to buy a sports car as the market for them is at its lowest due to the weather in parts of the country. i found that dealers in the northeast were willing to deal at this time as cars sit on their lots. good luck

peter, i thought you were looking for a 997s when i read the heading. i was going to offer you a trade for your M5!!

as for you question, i think the full leather, chrono, power seats are definitely good and useful options. i also have the short shifter and sports exhaust which are also great.

There is no such thing as a "gotta have" option. It's completely a matter of personal taste, isn't it??? You might as well ask what color we recommend.

I disagree. It's helpful to know which are some of the better options, and which ones people have gotten and feel are overrated.

Sport Chrono, Bose, Adaptive sport seats are a good start. Things like short shifter, steering wheel, exhaust, Nav can be added after the purchase if desired.

$0.02

So true, I added the sports shifter, sports exhaust, and Nav after the fact. The one option I did not get was the auto dimming mirrors and there is no OEM upgrade to date for this option on a 997. Its really a pain driving at night manually flipping the rear view mirror constantly and I guarantee you you will regret not having this option on a $90K + car. At least on the Turbo it comes standard but it should be standard on all Carreras. FWIW

Sport chrono with nav, active sport seats and sport design or carrera sport wheels. The first two are musts for fun factor and resale. The wheels are a matter of taste but the carrera sports are actually wider than the others. After those options, short shifter and sport exhaust push the car closer to ideal. Cd changers are nice but they take up a bit of space in the trunk. No sport chrono shoud be a deal breaker, it really does feel different especially if you add evo air flow and chip. Also, avoid the tiptronic. It doesn't add the performance the way it does in the turbo. I bouht my car (2006 cab) in september and got 10k+ off. Not much changes in 07 so I would think that if there is an 06 on a show room floor -10K shoud be no problem.
