New Gallardo will have R8 parts...

Updated Gallardo set to benefit from R8 R&D

When Lamborghini launches the facelifted 2008 Gallardo later this year, it will feature a number of improvements owed directly to its sibling, the Audi R8. As it turns out, even Lamborghini engineers have a few things to learn from their German counterparts at Audi.

The R8 sports car is based on the Gallardo, but it Audi engineers made a number of improvements of their own to the architecture. Audi development chief Ulrich Hackenberg told Edmunds the R8 will donate its rear suspension and a number of other unspecified components to the updated Gallardo.

The updated Gallardo is also rumored to get an improved version of the company's 5.0-liter V10 engine, with as much as 550 horsepower.

Eh, it's ok... I really need to drive one. For the money, I'd rather have a V8 Vantage (or even better, a GT3).

IMO - from an aesthetic standpoint - Vantage > R8 The Vantage is just about the best looking car out there in my eyes. I just wish they were 90K as originally reported.

From a performance standpoint - my guess GT3 > R8

For a daily driver that kicks *** and is going to be rather unique... I'm liking the R8 more and more.

I know they'll build it in low numbers, but I think in the long run, it'll be more of an oddball than a desirable car. Astons have a certain cachet that often supercedes their actual ability, while the GT3 (and all Porsche GT cars) have ironclad long-term desirability. Don't get me wrong, I think the R8 is a great step for Audi to take, but I don't think they'll stay in the sports car game long enough for the R8 to be more than a one-off.

Perhaps when the Vantage gets a bit more hp. Went to a black tie invitational @ the local A-M dealer and I just couldn't get over how stunning the exterior of the Vantage was and how nice the interior was.

Everywhere you touch was covered in leather. My wife saw the look in my eye and got nervous.

Good point on the long term prospects of the Audi. I hope they don't let it go like Honda did with the NSX.

I think it's a stunning, well balanced, powerful car that will give PAG a wake up call. It's priced right too.

I don't think it'll have anything close to the staying power of the NSX. I see it going 4-5 years max, then bu-bye. I'd buy one if I already had a GT-3 and/or Vantage, otherwise I couldn't justify it.

You can get it without the panels i.e. Sideblades, or rather painted in the same color as the car.
