What does an aerokit really do for 997

I have had fixed tails like my 96twin turbo. I like the look but am not sure what a fixed tail would do for a 997. I am getting a targa c4s and wonder other then looks if there is more performance or handling or just looks.
Probably a dumb question but someone will give me the answer without sarcaism.

Aerokit (front/rear) adds more downforce to the car at higher speeds.

Depends on the aero kit and if it was designed in a wind tunnel to improve down force. Most aftermarket aero kits mess up the aerodynamics of the car and some will improve them and high speeds.

I never track or race so for me the tail is all looks. It's kind of nice to see what kind of a tail everyone has-ha-even at my age I like to look at nice looking tails. Hope that doesn't expell me from the forum. I meant the kind of retracktable tail that is on my porsches.

Well, a decrease in performance due to increased weight and drag and increased cost (obviously). Honestly I can't figure out why people get it unless you drive on the track regularly and need the additional downforce at 150MPH and up... Aesthetically I don't like the front or the back, but perhaps if I was after downforce, the GT3RS wing would entice me. But for a street car, the nice clean lines of the 997 as it comes from the factory is sweet.

Factory Aero kits look great and are functional at high speeds, but certainly are more functional at the track when +100 MPH, and did I say they look great! There are so many Porsche on the road now days anything that can change it up to make it stand out and look good is fine with me!

I would question the weight difference issue, I don't, think if any, it is that noticable. The rear is composite, not like the all metal one on the standard rear wing and you don't have the rising mechanism. The front is very similar in weight. If anything, you most likey have a weight savings not an increase.

The aerodynamic influences of the aerokit are:

- 0,29 drag
- Zero lift on both axles

From the Sport Auto supertest of the GT3:
