997 Launch Car

Help!

I'm looking at a 2005 997 S that was called a 'Launch Car' by my local dealer based on it's color and configuration. Evidently PCNA supplied each dealer w/ this configuration 997 to use during the introduction of the 997.

My question . . . Does anybody know the protocol or restrictions that were enforced on 'Launch Cars'. Were they demos or just keep in the show room. Did the dealers have to keep the car for a certain amount of time before they could sell it.

Any insight to this matter would be much appreciated.

Thanks!

Launch cars were the first batch of 997s delivered to NA dealers. The 997S were all configured the same way: blk/blk with pretty much every option available (incl. PCCB) and stickered for $99,300. They weren't necessarily demos. In fact, my dealer didn't allow any test drives when the 997 was released.

docjackson1 is infamous around these parts
the dealers could do what they pleased with them-demo them, show them, etc. as the previous poster notes, they were expensive cars, mostly because of their pccbs. many of the dealers complained about the difficulty of selling the early 997s because of their expense and the options that they were equipt with. i wouldn't heitate to buy a used one, as long as it was priced right. i wouldn't have expected the car to be especially abused as launch cars. i would just realise that those options are not going to bring you much on resale.

I bought an initial 997. I think it was the third car delivered to the dealer. It was ordered by a customer who was transferred to NY and didn't want to take it there. They did not call it a "launch car" even though it was delivered in October 2005. Because it was ordered, it was a 997, black on black, Tiptronic. I sold it when I was picked for the Club Coupe by PCA.
