little qwerks like this are precisely why i never buy a car in it's first model year. i usually wait until the 2nd, or most likely, the 3rd year in its production run.

Hey,

I've had my '06 997S cab for almost two months and the only issues are a couple of rattles that I will bring in to get fixed at some point. I traded in a 987S which never had any problems. Boxsters are great but they don't come close to a 997S.

Anyway, this is a great forum and I'm glad I got turned on to it. Thanks, Craig!!!

I guess I have had my 997S the longest out of this group. 05 997S with 23000 nothing wrong so far..Its had a couple minor factory recall fixes but nothng I noticed...so far knock on wood...My only issue, is I need more horseys! But that will come in time...<patiently waiting for turbo price to drop>

The PCM in my nav radio went out and I had a slight paint flaw that was fixed but I wouldn't consider these real problems.

From my experiece, newer Porsches aren't as flawless as the older ones. My 996 turbo had to have the stereo, transmission, oil resevoir, and coolant resevoir replaced; and when my bro had his 997S, one of his break lights went out and he has to get something replaced (forgot what it was) within having the car for 3 months.

Unhappy Engine replacement

My 997 C2S coupe had an engine replacement at 8600 miles secondary to oil consumption at the rate of 1 liter per 450 miles. The job was completed in three working days from diagnosis to return so it is hard to complain too much other than going through another 2K at conservative RPM. The car now has 10600 miles on the odometer without any oil consumption noted. I did not notice any drop in HP with the original engine just a lot of oil discoloration on the exhaust. I have owned a number of Porsche's over the last 40 years. This is the first Porsche or any car for that matter to require an engine replacement.

I picked up my year 2000 996 December 23,1999...it now has 50,000 miles...it's been perfect.....all I do is routine maintenance and keep my foot in it.....This is my 5th 911 and the best of the bunch....
