AWE headers, cats, mufflers installed...

Wow, huge transformation. Didn't like what I heard when the engine / pipes were cold, but once warmed up - wow - thought there was a race car behind me. I'm sure there's still some break-in to be done.

Fortunately, you can modulate to be civil, but under moderate load even at low RPM the sound is deep and authoritative. Above 4k - simply unreal. Idle is deep and rumbling, let off the gas and you get an almost inaudible sensation of burble - it's one of those sounds you hear / feel the day you get a high-end sub-woofer and watch your favorite movie again and for the first time catch some very cool deep bass.

Definitely not for somebody that wants a whisper quiet exhaust note. But if you like what you hear with PSE, you would love what you hear from the AWE (headers, cats, and mufflers).

I now have a better understanding and appreciation for what PSE allows - you can keep to oem quiet down low, and then a nice note up high. AWE can be loud (or civil) at all RPMs - depends on how much load you put on the engine.

No drone - nice and quiet at highway speed in 5th and 6th.

Car is clearly more anxious to perform, better response, etc. A few days ago I had a "base line" and today my heart rate spiked unexpectedly upon full throttle, eyebrows arched up, odd grin developed, I sat up in my seat, arms went a little weak, etc. So yes, I'd say the "body dyno" reacted positively to the change.

Very cool - Thanks Mike at AWE!

Ron

P.S. Those with new 997s - give it some time and find cars to listen too - I was surprised at how different things were from what I expected / heard on the web. Those that say "X" is louder than AWE - beware, I wouldn't want even one DB louder than what I have with the AWE (and I was used to the Borla on my M3).

P.P.S. Tried to post a photo - system broken now - will edit one in later.

I have had the AWE system, in conjunction with the Evo airbox, for 9000 miles. Very satisfied with the results. Good bang for the buck. Altogether about $5K installed. Getting the GIAC reflash soon & will have the car dynoed.

Go over to the AWE site - there's a whole bunch of before and after dyno runs with different combinations. That should give you a good idea.

I have been trying to find out if AWE mufflers are right for me with my headers , cats, etc. I like the PSE because it is louder, especially under throttle. With the electrical disconnected, the db level is perfect except for the straight through unrestricted burble pop. Not as clean sounding but wonderfully loud.

Thought I had a clip, but it was messed up. Honestly, the only way to hear AWE or any exhaust is in person. The audio / video clips I found on the web were very different from "live".
