Pricing on a used 997S

just started looking in the Los Angeles area for a used 05 or 06 997S, under 20K miles, 6spd basalt or midnight with black or terracotta interior.

my last 2 cars were e46 M3s, so forgive my lack of knowledge, but what approx. price range would be considered a good deal for this used 997s in the LA market?

thanks.

First off don't restrict yourself to the LA market... Try to find a CPO - plenty of them listed on the Porsche site - will get you a couple more years of warranty and you have the assurance of a top-to-bottom inspection / replacement of anything unusual. Consider a "new" 06 - I think there are still some out there and in October a few were offered to me for $10-12,000 off MSRP (ended up ordering new 07 for 9% off).

I agree regarding looking further than the L.A. marketplace. I'm in the So Bay area of L.A. and really couldn't find the car (w/ options) that I wanted.

I just bought (March 1) an 05 997S (Launch Car Configuration) w/ just over 9,000 miles in the Houston, TX area. Shipping, via Intercity enclosed carrier, was about $1,200 (door-to-door). I hired an inspection serivice (recommended by the local Porsche dealer in Houston) to 'go over the car'. I had all service and warranty records checked by the selling dealer and also had my local Porsche dealer look via their on-line database to collaborate. Upon receipt of the car I brought it in for 'minor service' and warranty/campaign upgrades or fixes.

I think high $60K's to low 70K's is the range for a nice 997S depending on options, mileage and how much warranty is left.

Good luck . . . . . . .

thanks a lot for the responses! I just test drove a seal gray 997S today (certified pre-owned with 23k miles on the clock).. great power and loved the handling. it wasnt the right color however, so my search continues.

my friend was with me, and actually bought a cayman S from the same dealer today. During the car walk-around, I was surprised to hear that no oil change is needed until 20k miles?

i assume many will change it earlier than that- I told my friend to do it before 10k miles to be safe. what oil viscosity does the cayman take, vs. the 997s?

You should be able to get an 06 "S" coupe with 5k miles or so in the low 70s depending on the options. I would say an 05 would be in the 60s.

I would agree if you are looking for moderately equiped cars. Also, you will need to be patient and go through a lot of dealers who are trying to sell their cars for ridiculous prices. Autotrader or Cars.com has lots of dealers still asking in the 80's for 06 S coupes.

Check out this post on rennlist.com - you may want to follow up with the seller. He's selling his C2S with X-51 package. BTW, it's in Northern California.

I know. I considered going that route before I got the 997. Maybe in 5 years 2007 997 TT will be in the 60's.
