Dave you can polish them but the shine will only stay shortly unless it is a garage queen. The dremel tool will work and the reason I say this is because I had my dad use it on some motorcycle exhaust.

P.S. I prefer ceramic coated...lol

I had them chromed by Ralph at Booth. http://www.boothedesign.com

I did the one on my Cayman with a dremel. It took forever and did not come out as nice compared to the chrome one.

There's a DIY on how to do it. Once they are done you need to put some Rejex on them and then wipe them down every week if it's a DD, they'll last a while then.

i polished my old ones by hand and they came out pretty good, started with some fine grit sand paper, then just used metal polish. the dremel should be perfect than coat with some sealant like klasse or rejex...
they ended up replacing my tips with the chrome ones because of the recall, now the chrome ones are dirtier than my original tips since i am so busy at work no time to clean and I think chrome is easier to scratch so i am more careful.

Dave - don't bother... Having that golden patina is like wearing a badge of courage. Once I had back-to-back DEs at Lime Rock, they had that beautiful golden glow. I don't even know if it's possible to polish / buff them. The whole AWE system has the same patina from the red-hot temperatures.

I tried to attached a jpg of my tips post-session, but the system here is down. I'll email you...

I got the email...my tips on the Borla never tarnished or discolored. I guess I will just wait until the Borla is released. I am probably going to bite the bullet and get the X51 headers and race cats with the OEM mufflers until the Borla is released. Then I am moving on to software...I don't like the OEM throttle mapping, a bit to lethargic for me. I am going to wait on the software to see if the exhaust frees the car up a tad.

just an idea, i have seen people painting with high temp black spray paint, what if you just do another color like silver or chrome. i dont know how it will hold up but if it does the finish will last longer than the polished

Don't give up on the software until you fiddle with the headers, cats, and mufflers. I noticed quite an improvement in throttle response once things opened up.

That's what I am hoping for, that the exhaust frees the engine up a tad. It already feels more loose just for the fact it has almost 800 miles already. With 4kmiles and an exhaust and intake, I feel that should wake things up nicely..then maybe move on to software after AF ratios are recorded.
